In 2 or 3 years time, is Brenden the player we need. With a new contract, we are stuck with him.
Would like to see a bit more ambition in improving on what we have.

A tricky one. For what we'd likely get, transfer fee wise, it probably makes more sense to keep him. even if he doesn't sign a new deal. Obviously if we get a decent offer then that's a different story.

Not sure of his wages, signed under the clown period so likely on higher wages than he should be. If they aren't too high, or if he is willing to sign a deal on decent wages then likely makes sense to keep. We know what we have with him, and it is unlikely he'd dip below that. As such a good squad player and if he can improve the end product at some point then he's a cracking player.

If he signs a two year extenison then it sort of solves that problem - a good squad player at present and if he didn't improve then in 2 or 3 years we are hopefully in a position to improve and he is nearly out of contract.

He's a player of diminishing returns. I think we have seen the very best of him. It ain't going to get any better and if we have ambition we should be moving on and looking for better quality rather than offering up a contract extension. Hopefully he will move on.......

He wasn't (and isn't) worth half of what we paid for him! Whoever sanctioned his transfer in is a twastard of the highest order. We have a few players of this standard/ilk who are not worth anything near the price we paid: Dan James is another one...

Victor, I agree with you that we overpaid for players like Aaronson and James. And I do think that we need to improve the squad. But you also need to be fair, and recognize that Aaronson had the SECOND highest number of goal contributions in our side last season. He led the team with five assists, and added 4 goals. That's NINE goal contributions. The only player with more was Dominick Calvert-Lewin. You can find a lot of big name players around the Premier League that didn't match those numbers.

I don't see the logic in offering BA a new deal for an ok Championship season and a splatter of decent Premier League games.

Played a part but been a poor value for money signing over his time here.

Indeed and that is why I feel the way I do. Yes he certainly has flaws but certainly as a squad player it is worth looking to extend his contract by a couple of seasons otherwise we are faced with trying to replace him without having much money to do so. In a couple of years then hopefully the club has improved and at that point some players won't have kept place

Like you say though played a part and a useful squad player. Yes poor value for money but that doesn't mean we should cast him out cos that is just making it an even worse deal. Like p*ssing in your neighbour's milk and then going round and having a frothy milkshake after mowing his/her lawn (not a euphimism) whilst wearing a silk kimono that was bought at full price two days before the shop had a sale.

That's because you and so many others can't get past what we paid for him. And completely underestimate his contributions to our successful first season back in the Premier League. I think he played more games than any other player in our side. Take away his goals, assists, and defensive work and last season might not have gone quite as well.

I think Farke likes the chaos he brings, and he's a difficul player t odefend whan he's in the right mood. There is a case for using him as a bench player. He just makes things happen for himself or others and he's something different. I'm ok with a small extension (that would get a sid elsewhere) as a bench player. Don't want him starting much.

When they expect zig, you zag. I reckon he's really annoying to defend

Totally agree can’t see the point in a new contract.
He was given more opportunities last season than anyone else.
He was given an assist for Okafors 2nd goal v scum which he knew very little about where the ball was going.
We need to upgrade from this standard of player if we are going to rise up the table.

I'm not bothered about his stats (they're 5h1t regardless). You're missing a simple fact: he is nowhere near good enough at this level!

Not true! We don't rate him as highly as you obviously do and we know he was not good value! He loses the ball as many times as he makes a successful pass. He is average at best and he as much a liability as he is an asset! We need to get back to the high standards we used to have at this club! I know we are limited by financial constraints but buying sub-standard players at excessive prices has and still is hurting us...

It's not casting him out though, it's recognising he played a part but also recognising it wasn't the sort of part that warrants millions of pounds and probably another 4 year deal.

It always plays a part.

He's gonna want decent wages, his agent will no doubt take into account his game time.

He didn't justify all those games let's be honest, he's a Farke favourite so performance was largely irrelevant game to game he was getting minutes regardless.

He played a part absolutely.

But did he play a massive part?
Mentioning stats, he got 2 assists 0 goals in his last 16 games.

2 goals no assists in his last 21 Championship starts.

A played a part and fair play but he's careless on the ball, creatively erratic, and goes missing for huge chunks of games (not just one or two).

On a very short term deal (1 year with an option for a 2nd) and low wages maybe.

But it wouldn't be that, it would be big money and longer.

He hasn't earned that.

He's also really annoying to watch.

Never known a player lose the ball more.

Think Farke likes his energy and he's probably a nice lad, does as he's told etc.

It's a no for me

For the reasons above, he's never accepting a short term deal and we can't just hand out long Premier League contracts.

Thank him for his contributions and move him on for a few million imo.

Are players in our squad who should be ahead of BA already.

This imo.

You have to upgrade not just the starting lineup but the overall squad each season.

BA is someone we should be able to upgrade on.

If it was as a squad player with 2 years left on his contract I'd be more open.

But it isn't, it's a new deal and imo simply hasn't justified that.

Ah your mastermind specialist subject.

For me a 2 year extension simply seems a good idea. I get that we want to replace with better etc but it isn't like the footy manager games where you go into a club, sell every fecker and buy a new team. It's like the DCL situation, if you sell then what do you realistically get with the money cos not going to be selling either for a fortune. So you have them in the squad, they are good enough to start but then over the next 2 or 3 years you hope that the team is evolving so that we get to a point where either they have raised their games and are first team starter standard so are still worth having in the squad or the team has improved and you thank them for their service. But no point getting rid and then having to probably spend circa £40m to replace them both with players that likely aren't much better. All about prioritising our greatest need, so if you think it is a new 9 then we buy a new 9 but still have DCL as competition - a bit like with Rodrigo and Bamford. Or we buy a 10 and Aaronsen competes, is back up, is fresh legs etc rather than buying a new 10 and a new back-up no 10.
