In 2 or 3 years time, is Brenden the player we need. With a new contract, we are stuck with him.
Would like to see a bit more ambition in improving on what we have.

A tricky one. For what we'd likely get, transfer fee wise, it probably makes more sense to keep him. even if he doesn't sign a new deal. Obviously if we get a decent offer then that's a different story.

If he signs a two year extenison then it sort of solves that problem - a good squad player at present and if he didn't improve then in 2 or 3 years we are hopefully in a position to improve and he is nearly out of contract.

He's a player of diminishing returns. I think we have seen the very best of him. It ain't going to get any better and if we have ambition we should be moving on and looking for better quality rather than offering up a contract extension. Hopefully he will move on.......

Victor, I agree with you that we overpaid for players like Aaronson and James. And I do think that we need to improve the squad. But you also need to be fair, and recognize that Aaronson had the SECOND highest number of goal contributions in our side last season. He led the team with five assists, and added 4 goals. That's NINE goal contributions. The only player with more was Dominick Calvert-Lewin. You can find a lot of big name players around the Premier League that didn't match those numbers.Victor_Notts-17 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2026 8:14 pm He wasn't (and isn't) worth half of what we paid for him! Whoever sanctioned his transfer in is a twastard of the highest order. We have a few players of this standard/ilk who are not worth anything near the price we paid: Dan James is another one...

Indeed and that is why I feel the way I do. Yes he certainly has flaws but certainly as a squad player it is worth looking to extend his contract by a couple of seasons otherwise we are faced with trying to replace him without having much money to do so. In a couple of years then hopefully the club has improved and at that point some players won't have kept placeBlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2026 8:44 pm Victor, I agree with you that we overpaid for players like Aaronson and James. Like you say though played a part and a useful squad player. Yes poor value for money but that doesn't mean we should cast him out cos that is just making it an even worse deal. Like p*ssing in your neighbour's milk and then going round and having a frothy milkshake after mowing his/her lawn (not a euphimism) whilst wearing a silk kimono that was bought at full price two days before the shop had a sale.

That's because you and so many others can't get past what we paid for him. And completely underestimate his contributions to our successful first season back in the Premier League. I think he played more games than any other player in our side. Take away his goals, assists, and defensive work and last season might not have gone quite as well.

I think Farke likes the chaos he brings, and he's a difficul player t odefend whan he's in the right mood. There is a case for using him as a bench player. He just makes things happen for himself or others and he's something different. I'm ok with a small extension (that would get a sid elsewhere) as a bench player. Don't want him starting much.

Totally agree can’t see the point in a new contract.

I'm not bothered about his stats (they're 5h1t regardless). You're missing a simple fact: he is nowhere near good enough at this level!BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2026 8:44 pm But you also need to be fair, and recognize that Aaronson had the SECOND highest number of goal contributions in our side last season. Not true! We don't rate him as highly as you obviously do and we know he was not good value! He loses the ball as many times as he makes a successful pass. He is average at best and he as much a liability as he is an asset! We need to get back to the high standards we used to have at this club! I know we are limited by financial constraints but buying sub-standard players at excessive prices has and still is hurting us...BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2026 10:59 pm That's because you and so many others can't get past what we paid for him. It's not casting him out though, it's recognising he played a part but also recognising it wasn't the sort of part that warrants millions of pounds and probably another 4 year deal.weasel wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2026 9:57 pm Like you say though played a part and a useful squad player. He's also really annoying to watch. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2026 11:49 pm I think Farke likes the chaos he brings, and he's a difficul player t odefend whan he's in the right mood. When they expect zig, you zag. I reckon he's really annoying to defend

This imo.ShaunL wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2026 11:53 pm Totally agree can’t see the point in a new contract.
He was given more opportunities last season than anyone else.
He was given an assist for Okafors 2nd goal v scum which he knew very little about where the ball was going.
We need to upgrade from this standard of player if we are going to rise up the table.

Ah your mastermind specialist subject.
