Re: Birmingham City v Leeds United Match Thread
3 of the games he's scored in we've lost including a literal tap in from the line vs Villa
He scored a pen vs Everton to win.
A pen vs Chelsea to draw.
Fulham probably his biggest contribution.
I'd have backed Piroe to do as well if not better tbf.
But we will never know.
Still say he's a wide forward not a 9

I’d agree that Nmecha doesn’t pass the eye test but then boom he sticks the ball in the back of the net.White Riot wrote: ↑Sun Feb 15, 2026 4:19 pm Yeah, he's done well and took his chances.
With Piroe, we'll never know, cos he hasn't been given a chance. I still feel he offers more than Nmecha.
Piroe will therefore have to wait for his chance as Farke has called it correctly on current form. Personally I hope Joel sticks it out and comes back next season with a massive point to prove.

I can't see that happening Jammy, expect we'll push for a big striker signing in the summer, based on us staying up.Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 15, 2026 4:28 pm I’d agree that Nmecha doesn’t pass the eye test but then boom he sticks the ball in the back of the net.

Piroe will need to pursue his career elsewhere, cos a new striker makes him 3rd, or 4th choice.
The only way Piroe gets a chance now is if DCL, and Nmecha are injured.

If we get a home draw tomorrow, it’ll be 3 home games in a week.

Perri was quite brilliant apart from his usual kicking the ball into touch and
rolling the ball across the penalty area to the full back who then passes it to our man on the wing, a defender close so winger passes back to the fullback
who has to pass it back to the Goalkeeper who sometimes can be under
pressure of his own making.

That was a decent outcome against a Birmingham team who have found some form of late and were well up for it as was their crowd.
Cup games are often a leveller as supposed underdogs give everything.
Sexist landowner at home next would be a welcome tie.
I was impressed with Perri today - I would like to think his early dives to his left in the shootout were planned from his perspective to make the mind up of the 3rd taker. The fact he didn’t move early was not what the penalty taker expected. Perhaps I am giving him too much credit, but would not be surprised if it was planning on his part. Robert’s was certainly unsettled for his.

I missed the entire ET and penalties, a friend unexpectedly popped by, he has serious health issues and not expected to live much too longer. Some things take precedence over football, even Leeds United. Great to see him in decent form.

Missed the game today, had a spa day instead. Doesn’t sound like we played well at all which isn’t surprising when I saw the team - we rarely play well with too many changes. Not sure if it says much about squad depth but more about players not getting enough game time all struggling to adapt at the same time - still good to be through - better we play that weekend than have nearly 2 weeks off.

If you look at the third penalty he made a movement as if he was about to spring to his left but then immediately dived to his right. I would give him a lot of credit for that save. He either read the penalty or gambled on making the player put it that way.DDB220 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 15, 2026 4:53 pm That was a decent outcome against a Birmingham team who have found some form of late and were well up for it as was their crowd.

They showed a clip of Perri’s water bottle with a list of Birmingham players and which direction to dive before the pens, someone doing their homework.DDB220 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 15, 2026 4:53 pm That was a decent outcome against a Birmingham team who have found some form of late and were well up for it as was their crowd.

Away for a lie down after reading it.White Riot wrote: ↑Sun Feb 15, 2026 4:02 pm Longstaff I wouldn't have bought in the first place Cussie, never rated him and Newcastle had our pants down with that price. He's a very limited player.
Buonanotte seems like he was brought in against Farke's wishes, similar to Spence, Anthony, Roberts, etc, and Farke has continually stated he doesn't like loans. Which removes an avenue for squad improvement. Rodon proved that loans can be successful.
Piroe for me proved his worth last season, but Farke seems to have had a downer on him since we signed him. So, I again wonder if Piroe was signed as a third or forth choice on Farke's wish lit.
Joel can finish, same as Nmecha, both are no good at physical duels, but Joel has vision and can bring others into play. So, I'd play Piroe ahead of Nmecha every day if the week.
Gnonto, like Tanaka, I feel have the quality to make an impact at this level, and both have proven that. But, Tanaka's form significantly improved last season when he was given a run.
Farke was prepared to gamble and start with a void of a midfield against Chelsea, who had Palmer allowed the freedom of Stamford Bridge in the first half.
So, if he's prepared to take a risk like that, for which we should have been severely punished, then why not give these guys more of a chance?
There have been lots of matches this season where if we'd pushed a bit the win was there for the taking. But he's stuck with his defenders and sat back and watched us drop points late in matches.
I'm more tired than Longstaff after writing all that![]()

Rumour has it that the club has decided to revamp the away kit to black and white horizontal stripes.

Very important, then, to get a home draw. I'd hate to have to travel between those two games.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 15, 2026 4:43 pm If we get a home draw tomorrow, it’ll be 3 home games in a week.
