The words of sanity. £50m is bonkers and no guarantee he hasn't been found out at this level. Players can often come in and do well as they have the surprise element. Much rather we keep what money we have and can then spend it wisely in the summer.

Nmecha is as injury prone and inconsistent historically as DCL (injured now apparently)weasel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 3:23 pm Do we need a contingency? If DCL gets injured I am comfortable with Nmecha playing his role. Similarly happy with a 2 man combination out of DCL, Nmecha, Piroe, Okafor or Buanonotte.
Maybe next season we need to improve but what we have had this season has been good enough.
Piroe has barely played and will be rusty even if DF uses him.
Okafor has been crap.
Buonanotte will be rusty
Good enough but only just and what if as they seem to be others improve?
Forest are trying to bring in 3 players.
West Ham have already.
Fine margins.
Nit suggesting we should have spent £50mil on JSL, but chasing a player all window and signing nobody is straight out of the Orta play book.
Got Farke even mentioning pathways now

I have already dismissed your point in relation to others strengthening. It matters not what they do all we have to do is continue doing what we have been doing and we will be fine.

Mateta wouldn't fit the way we played. Same as Piroe doesn't either.
I cant see there being anyone available who would fit unless we go full 1980s big striker wee striker combo.

Well that's a relief.
Now we can go sign someone for free in the summer and get another bargain

We aren't signing him anyway but would agree with that
The best form in his career has come under 2 Red Bull style managers.
Doubt it's a coincidence

May require some backtracking on JSL as whispers the Palace deal may not happen.

Sounds more like now they have Evann Guessand who was their main target in the summer they are reconsidering whether they want to spend £50mil on another.
Mateta is reported to be very close to joining Forest.

Well if we're paying £50 million for him I'd expect him to be our first choice striker, or playing alongside DCL.herefordbornleedsboy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 1:50 pm Genuine question... would you have been happy shelling out £50m for him? Wouldnt be our first choice striker either...
Farke likely wanted him, so he would be playing him, but we weren't prepared to pay the asking price.
I wouldn't pay £50 million for him and think Palace are nuts to do this. I also think he's nuts going to Palace with the state they're in, but good luck to both of them.
My concern is despite our recruitment team saying the lie that they got all their top targets in the summer, they didn't.
So, this is quite a pattern of failure to bring in prestige signings: Paixao, Muniz, Wilson, the Sunderland players and now JSL.
If we are after a striker are there not any other identified targets?
Every time there's competition for a player, which there should be for good players, we seem to be cooked immediately, but hanging around for no reason.
We seem to get just completely fixated on one signing at a time, and then if someone else comes in we're done.
Our recruitment team is capable of recruiting a mediocre player like Longstaff, when nobody else is interested and even then we were bidding against ourselves.
That recruitment team should never have been appointed.

So, if that's the case why did we loan Buonanotte and chase after JSL.
As we've identified in the past, if you don't look to improve your squad continually at this level and match your competitors then you're back down to the Championship.
As you say Cjay, Forest and West Ham have made moves to try and retain their EPL status, and we can't just sit on our hands and hope for the best.
It's tight at the bottom.

Our recruitment team (if we have one) is pretty shocking to be honest. As we know it's the classic pattern with the usual hyper-fixation on a player and nothing ever materialises. I would say Larsen is totally overpriced more like 20-25 mil.White Riot wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 5:26 pm Well if we're paying £50 million for him I'd expect him to be our first choice striker, or playing alongside DCL.

All is not lost, Jay-Roy Grot has scored 6 for OB in the Danish, and we could bring in Coop's and Kent.

Aye, OM no doubt some would be happy to get Ayling, Bamford and 90 years old James Milner backOverman wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 6:03 pm Our recruitment team (if we have one) is pretty shocking to be honest. I don't Leeds have been sitting on their hands but you cant spend money you don't have irrespective of psr.

Or go for another striker and leave him with Wolves, we should have other targets, he's not the only striker on the planet.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Thu Jan 29, 2026 6:17 pm If it doesn't, Leeds should make a new offer - £25m, take it or leave it.![]()
