The words of sanity. £50m is bonkers and no guarantee he hasn't been found out at this level. Players can often come in and do well as they have the surprise element. Much rather we keep what money we have and can then spend it wisely in the summer.

Do we need a contingency? If DCL gets injured I am comfortable with Nmecha playing his role. Similarly happy with a 2 man combination out of DCL, Nmecha, Piroe, Okafor or Buanonotte.

I wouldn't pay £50 million for him and think Palace are nuts to do this. I also think he's nuts going to Palace with the state they're in, but good luck to both of them.

My concern is despite our recruitment team saying the lie that they got all their top targets in the summer, they didn't.

So, this is quite a pattern of failure to bring in prestige signings: Paixao, Muniz, Wilson, the Sunderland players and now JSL.

If we are after a striker are there not any other identified targets?

Every time there's competition for a player, which there should be for good players, we seem to be cooked immediately, but hanging around for no reason.

We seem to get just completely fixated on one signing at a time, and then if someone else comes in we're done.

Our recruitment team is capable of recruiting a mediocre player like Longstaff, when nobody else is interested and even then we were bidding against ourselves.

That recruitment team should never have been appointed.

So, if that's the case why did we loan Buonanotte and chase after JSL.

As we've identified in the past, if you don't look to improve your squad continually at this level and match your competitors then you're back down to the Championship.
