A reputation built on sand given that Bielsa's tenures at clubs were less than 2 yearsso how can you judge? People go on about his Bilbao side running out of steam and losing 2 finals - well I wonder if that had more to do with the fact the players were not used to playing as many matches as they had to that years given that they didn't really reach many finals previously. The Europa Cup especially was a long gruelling competition. So any player having to play 10 or more games than they are used to in a season is bound to be a bit tired at the end. Also worth noting that the supposed burn out only happened when they got to the final. not the quarters or semi. Just a thought I wonder if the opposition in the finals were actually decent teams, I've heard of one of them FC Barcelona.

For me I would think the burnout or tiredness would be greatest in the first season and then less so in following seasons as your body gets used to it. I think this showed with us in our 3 full seasons. A bit like how when a footballer returns for pre-seasons they will be 'blowing out their ar$e' in the first few days but then as they build up their fitness they are then getting fitter the more they train. What they couldn't do after the first few days they can then do with ease after a couple of weeks.

We'll be in a position to evaluate next season whether we wasted £40 million on Dan James & Junior Firpo last summer.

If we get very few goals & assists from DJ & Firpo's defensive play/disciplinary record/missing too many games through injuries doesn't improve, we'll know all the answers.

I am sure that Dan James is a nice guy and might be a decent winger. It’s just that everyone with half an interest in Leeds Utd (except one person) knew that we needed a central midfielder or a striker more than we needed another winger. But we also knew MB was obsessed with James for years. It didn’t matter that we’d signed Raph and Jack since then … and no longer needed a winger, the obsession was still still there.
I feel a bit sorry for James actually… wondering why he is being played out of position week after week with very little return, while a talented young striker was denied his opportunity.
But I suppose the mind of a genius works in strange ways…. and only those with your knowledge of the game, Kenny, can appreciate how this signing, and this ‘winger = striker”strategy made Leeds a better team. But feel free to try to explain it to we mere mortals … after your brekkie of course.

FIFA got it all wrong when they put that one person in their top 3 managers in the world last year.

They should have checked this site, because if they looked at the 10 or 15 posters here who know more about football, that one person would barely have scraped into the top 20...

Tbf Bielsa is well known for getting obsessed with certain players, doesn't mean he is always right.

James is a sprinter who runs a lot which helps Bielsa's press, as a finisher or creator he is crap as the stats show, you shouldn't buy attacking players because they run a lot which is literally the only reason Bielsa liked James.

Was he worth £25mil? Course he wasn't.

Bielsa may be an influential coach but his Dan James obsession was weird (as was the Tyler Roberts one).

I agree that FIFA was on the money in ranking MB at number 3 in 2020 - the year of the award you speak of. That doesn’t make his decision to sign James the following year a good one, does it? Perhaps Marsch can turn young Dan back into a £25m player. We all live in hope.
