I find it's usually the case that what I think are the five best albums of any given year aren't represented in the nomination; I'm usually lucky if I get more than two to vote for. However, this time I have discovered Midlake and Ólafur Arnalds, both of which I really like and were previously unknown to me.

Midlake acquired ten points already with more to come!

Some people are in the know

I know Massive Attack have gained plenty of votes however they are very popular with much more radio play plus hit albums (2 x No.1's) & singles galore. Midlake are acquired & more for the discerning listener.

That's the way it goes Andrew, so many decent great albums missing the cut every year especially as we only have one nomination, any more would make the polls unmanageable from my point of view.

Btw 'The Suburbs' is not in the same league as 'Funeral' or even 'Neon Bible' imo!

Played Funeral & Neon B to death, then bought 'The Suburbs' which didn't give me nowhere near the same vibes, I was so disappointed!

This album is absolutely gorgeous Durly.

Thought I had my top five sorted but....I keep returning to three albums new to me, now I'm all over the place

Surprised to see Tame Impala do so well, I'd actually prefer their 2015 effort Currents...this was peak Tame Impala for me...

Tame Impala is another album new to me I'm enjoying

I love Massive Attack, but Heligoland is their weakest album, for me. I know Faaip will disagree.

Yep, it does change as 100th Window is probably better. Heligoland did take a hit from the critics it's true and fans seemed to disapprove. Doesn't really affect my judgement

100th Window - 10
Heligoland - 9.9
Mezzanine - 9.7
Protection - 9.5
Blue Lines - 9.3

This time next year and that list probably gets inverted

Depends what you mean by 'rate'. For me, it's nothing particularly original or profound, I just really like the sound of his voice, and the mood on that album. It'll be one of those bands where I only need one album, I don't need more of the same, but it's a specific vibe that resonates with my penchant for pastoral melancholy.

I bought Trials on release and really cannot get into it at all...
