Not sure why people are trying to use Barnsley playing poorly as a stick to beat Leeds with. We were busy all over the park and that is a large reason why Barnsley couldn't get into their stride. Barnsley also seemed to have a gameplan to kick Aliski and Saiz out of the game but credit to our team for not being bullied and being the only team trying to play good football.

Re: Barnsley v Leeds - Team/News/Reports/Ratings
Key points
Clean sheet which must have given our defence a confidence boost after that hammering at Wolves
Seven clean sheets for Felix
Is Ayling a top defender ?
Anyone noticed Pontus is playing two positions. RB & CB
Cooper turned up today
Phillips is our most consistent defensive midfielder
We looked more vulnerable when O'Kane was subbed
Pass of the match from Hernandez to Ekaban
Little room for Alioski to aim at, what a strike
How average would we be without Saiz & Alioski ? Wish both had been in last season's team
Ekuban showed today how a CF should perform
Why didn't our coaches realise Felix needed a cap, amazingly it was left to one of our fans to make that decision
Barnsley have to be one of the worst teams I've seen this season
How many poor refs are we going to suffer?
7 - Weidwald
6 - Ayling
7 - Jansson
7 - Cooper
7 - Berardi
7 - Phillips
6 - O'Kane
7 - Hernandez
9 - Saiz (MOTM)
8 - Alioski
8 - Ekuban
Subs
5 - Shaughnessy
n/a - Roofe
n/a - Grot

Not harsh at all, both attempts were pretty poor !Gandalf wrote:Very harsh. i thought Cooper had a good game today.
Yes Cooper did have a good game, he turned up today although the tyke attackers are nothing special
I'd be very happy if Cooper got 7+ rating in the majority of his games, point is that doesn't occur week in week out

We played well but every Leeds fan I spoke to during & after the game commented how poor the Tykes were. One of mates said "that has to be the worst Barnsley side I've seen". He was spot on!
They are definite candidates for the drop.
Just a realistic viewpoint from our fans

Brentford were ten times more dangerous than Barnsley were against us.Cjay wrote:Brentford are only 3 points above Barnsley, Fulham only 6 with a game more played
Doesn't really matter anyways
I'll predict Barnsley will be in the bottom three by Christmas
As for Fulham they are slowly creeping up the league & will finish in the top six

Re: Barnsley v Leeds - Team/News/Reports/Ratings
If Barnsley had beaten us today they would only be three points behind us...
But I agree they looked really poor. But so did Bristol and they're a good team undoubtedly this season.
I thought the team performance was solid, not spectacular, but saiz was class (dipped second half and lost the ball too much though) and alioski had a great game.
One thing I'll say though, berardi for me is just so average. Can head the ball, tackle and run but can't do anything with the ball. Would give anything to have Charlie back at left back, berardi offers zero going forward. Nice guy though, but just my opinion. Ayling offers so much more going forward - but yes has been a bit questionable defensively this season so far.

What if we had Green Taylor Byram Cooke and Wood in the team???danhirons wrote:One thing I'll say though, berardi for me is just so average. It would certainly free up a lot of bench space in the premiership.rab_rant wrote:What if we had Green Taylor Byram Cooke and Wood in the team???

I certainly will. He'll be chased hard by other clubs if we fail to go up.1964white wrote:Yes he is Harry
Our fans love him :luv: enjoy his play whilst he's still at ER
He not only has the silky skills, but he has strength as well, being hard to knock off the ball. Also a very intelligent player when it comes to passing and his own movement off the ball.
Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

Another Key point:
Winning at Oakwell! We've had some really embarrassing defeats over the years so to win comfortably is the big thing here.
The incident which led to Aylings booking annoyed me because there was no way he was looking for a penalty, he ran into the box, tripped up, got back up and carried on his run, but a Barnsley player took exception and followed Ayling to accuse him of diving. This led to both teams getting involved in handbag stuff.
Hopefully, and I've said this a couple of times already this season, we can turn the corner and get our season back on track, a tricky tie next against in form Villa ... I can't wait

Re: Barnsley v Leeds - Team/News/Reports/Ratings
We were excellent yesterday imo particularly first half, like the win vs Middlesbrough it was a game where everyone played well from the starting 11.
We started the game really brightly and looked full of confidence we get the two goals and Barnsley are also unbelievably lucky not to have Barnes sent off for a second yellow.
Second half was a little bit quiet but we maintained control of the match, whilst Ekuban missed a really good chance to make it 3-0. It would be great if we could have won the game by more goals but the bottom line is we went in at HT 2-0 up and the emphasis most definitely wasn't on us to attack particularly when we had only won 2 in 10 before this it was all about getting the win and not conceding a goal to let them back into the game.
We haven't reached the levels of the first 6 weeks (and I don't think we will do) but this has been a good week as bad as the Wolves defeat was, 6 points from 3 tough games represents progress.
Wiedwald 7- a lot more confident coming out for crosses and judged everything well. Hopefully he will be heading towards his form from the first 6 weeks of the season.
Ayling 8- Back to his best particularly first half as he caused so many problems going forward and made the 2nd goal, mostly good defensively although Hedges found a bit of joy down his side when he came on.
Jansson 7- Didn't really have much to do as we had so much control.
Cooper 7- Similar to Jansson some good blocks towards the end.
Berardi 8- Excellent our best defender on the day by a mile, 2 goal saving blocks/interceptions and won everything on his side.
Phillips 7- Some good moments going forward and kept us ticking over.
O'Kane 7- One or two poor passes but always positions himself well defensively by being in the right place at the right time.
Alioski 9- Man Of The Match, outstanding what an absolute bargain Ali has been £2.25 million for a player with his ability? Unbelievavble. Awesome pass for Samu's goal and an excellent goal for himself some big contributions defensively as well.
Saiz 8- Brilliant work for his goal and once again loads of solo runs throughout the game.
Hernandez 7- Didn't see loads of the ball but worked hard once again and a lovely pass to Ekuban for his chance, with players like Alioski and Saiz in the team this season it is inevitable he will see less of the ball than last season tbf.
Ekuban 7- Superb work rate, should have scored his chance but he showed great skill to create the space for the chance.
Subs:
Shaughnessy 5- His best position is definitely as a CB he did ok defensively but lost the ball a few too many times.
Roofe 6- One or two nice touches but the game was won by the time he came on.
