Harry Wilson

Post by Cjay »

First player thread of the summer.

Not an exclusive but Beren today confirmed we are in firm discussions with Harry Wilson and his representatives.

A deal was close last summer but Fulham backed out in the end.

Wilson then went on to have the best season of his career with 10 goals and 7 assists in the Premier League (which included the Premier League BBC goal of the season)

29 year old Welsh international.

Has been primarily an inverted right winger most of his career with occasional appearances as a 10 which as he gets older may suit him better as a player who relies on intelligence and movement rather than explosive skills and 1v1 abilities.

He is progressive with his passing and movement, relying on intelligence to drift into areas where his eye for a spectacular goal can show.

He is a reliable player in possession, good at finding a pass and not losing it in dangerous areas.

He is one of the best set piece takers in the country large proportions of his goals and chances created coming from set pieces.

Weaknesses include limited threat in open play, he isn't quick or dynamic or a brilliant dribbler and if unable to find a shot can be quite limited with his threat in open play (this is also compounded by the fact he's quite predictable always wanting to go onto his left foot).

Highly experienced player who has over 300 appearances for club and country.

Apparently, Villa are showing more of interest in Jarrod Bowen rather than Harry Wilson, leaving the door wide open for a move to Leeds.

I would welcome a deal. We need more options and HW is different to what we have.

Where we are now it is about making the most of the limited money we can spend, strengthening the first team, and squad, and having players that can come in and make an impact straightaway - rather than taking the gambles by splashing out £35m on someone like Rutter who whilst immensbily talented was nowhere near ready when we bought him - and spending the money on a player who could have made an immediate impact could have been worth £100m+ if he'd kept us up.

HW adds to what we have but if he has a poor season it likely wouldn't be disastrous for the club. If he has a good season then it is highly likely it makes us better.

I mean players who regularly started in our first XI last season.

They think he's very meh too. And he is tbf, mediocre is a good word for him. He has talent every now and again to produce something special but so did Brolin. I think Farke wants Brandt and the board want Wilson..

In fairness the thread was before last season so probably different now.

But I'd be concerned with 1 season wonder playing for a last big payday

Can't see that being the case? Different players and different positions.

Probably noticed I haven't made a Brandt thread  I can't take the probably inevitable disappointment

You say different position but we don't use wingers unless we go back to 451, so if we stick with 532 or 541 he'll play the 10/AMF instead of Okafor...

Leeds Welsh, like London Welsh, especially if Darlow plays

I get the feeling Farke would quite like to go back to 4 at the back. Wilson is adaptable to play anywhere accross the front line though.

Oh so do I, which pushes Bijol to the bench.

Not keen at all on that, but judging by the targets it's likely true.
