Re: Daniel Farke
We dumbed down football was the gist... We turned away from the possession based passing football and went chaotic and physical. Easy to see why certain players played well in that system and others couldn't get a look in. Jesse Marsch advocated something similar. TBH I'm not sure Farke likes that kind of football but was forced into it

Re: Daniel Farke
He's delusional if he thinks we will stay up playing like Prime Barcelona next season. You do what you have to to survive the first few seasons. He comes across as a bit arrogant as well, he doesn't really have the tactical nous to play like that in the PL. The first half of the season showed that. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2026 7:53 pm We dumbed down football was the gist... I don’t disagree with a lot of what Jordan is saying. But much of what has been said by Farke is open to interpretation.
Farke has done a brilliant job this season and IMO Jordan is right in saying that what he said in that interview should have been pitched to the board / owners rather than aired publicly. So that the grey areas and expectations could be fully outlined and understood by both parties.
Then a joint statement of alignment could have been issued.

Re: Daniel Farke
I actually agree with him. Why are we trying to go back to a style of play that would get us relegated next season? We saw with the Blunts they had a good year then got found out. The plan is to improve gradually, not throw £300m (that we don't have) due to Farke's delusions of grandeur to play like Prime Barcelona. Chris Wilder and David Wagner have both survived a season in the PL, so he hasn't achieved much yet.DDB220 wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2026 7:10 am I don’t disagree with a lot of what Jordan is saying. Re: Daniel Farke
ITK elsewhere gave a Farke update.
More likely to stay than not at this stage with club appreciative of meeting the survival objective
Club are planning on being ambitious but play it down in the media.
Is friction though between Farke and others inside the club behind the scenes.
Recruitment (as has been confirmed before by the YEP and Athletic)
And some dissatisfaction from elements inside the club for his style in certain games (Chelsea game specifically mentioned).
Farke is also trying to get more control over footballing matters which isn't popular
More likely to stay than not but some big hurdles.

Re: Daniel Farke
The board should be grateful for what Farke has done. Plenty of managers have failed with more stacked in their favour. We could very easily have done a Leciester or Luton and gone straight from the prem to League 1. He inherited a mess, for which the 49ers played a part, and turned it around - yes he was backed financially but it was still a case of turning the club around.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2026 12:16 pm ITK elsewhere gave a Farke update.

You would think the board would listen if Farke is wanting more say on transfers - if there is any truth suggestions that the likes of Perri, Schmidt and Ramizanni weren't players Farke wanted. Buying players the manager has no use for is just throwing money away - or are they hoping Farke does so badly they have to get a new manager in that 'may' like those players? And would it have been the case that the reason Farke would fail would be because the board had spent money on players he didn't want rather than actually strengthening how Farke wants? It is hardly like we are in a position like Man City were when they bought loads of players and loaned them out to see how they would develop (such as Aaron Mooy, James Trafford etc) but they could afford to do so.
I think Farke has earned the right to have more say in the players we bring in.

Re: Daniel Farke
I still say he should've kept some of those comments pre-Brighton in-house until the board were ready to sit down with him. Interested to know who the friction is between 'behind the scenes'. Would that be board members? Or just other randoms. Doesn't really matter if it is randoms, as if none of us ever thought everything with our bosses was hunky dory in of our working lives but you just get on with it. There were rumours a few of the board weren't happy with the timing of his comments too but if he is 'more likely to stay than not' then they will just have to get past it and all move on together.
They need to give him more control over signings and he wants it. Could be the biggest hurdle of the lot.

Re: Daniel Farke
Farke made these comments about his perspective on our future on May 15th, and he was clearly stating his position and expectations to the club.
With one year left on his contract, and his success in achieving our objectives, I think it's normal that he has asked for clarity as to his and the club's refreshed vision.
We've had a few noises from senior people at the club, but so far, 15 days later, we're no wiser as to whether DF is staying, or going. The transfer window opens in two weeks, with the added disruption of the World Cup, and the new season begins in 12 weeks.
So, I'm quite surprised that the club hasn't nipped this in the bud. I would have thought it would be a priority to sit down with Farke, and either come to an agreement on his role and responsibilities, or if an agreement can't be reached, then get a new coach in.
Because if the club is prepared to negotiate then a deal might be done, and the sooner the better. If a deal can't be agreed, then the club has already clarified it's position and this would need to be made very clear to potential new coaches.
Either way, I don't think the club are doing themselves, or DF, any favours by dithering. We need to plan a way forward, including the coach's role, investment and squad management.
If this drags on, and then say Farke departs before the new season starts, we then have to recruit a new coach, refresh the squad, and facilitate pre-season with different players, a different coaching style and likely new playing strategies.
Clearing things up quickly would show a united front, and give us the momentum for summer and next season. It currently feels like we're in a state of inertia, and as DF stated his desires 15 days ago, the lack of movement is down to the club.
I would imagine DF is quite frustrated, and that's possibly resulted in him making these comments, and that frustration will only be growing each day this situation continues.

Re: Daniel Farke
Well said. To be honest as soon as our premier league safety was mathematically assured the board and Farke should have been meeting and thrashing out the details of a new deal. Possibly nothing had happened between the point of our survival and Farke's comments and this was the reason Farke said what he did. Given how the board kept him dangling last season after we'd got promoted with our best ever points total you would have expected them to have acted with a bit more class this time.White Riot wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2026 3:28 pm Farke made these comments about his perspective on our future on May 15th, and he was clearly stating his position and expectations to the club.

I'm not DF's greatest fan by any means, but last summer and this situation doesn't reflect well on the board.
Potential incoming coaches will be aware of this approach and it will be off putting for the better ones.

Is it any wonder why we always end up doing transfer deals at the last minute … ?

Perhaps what we think we know and what is really going on are two very different things. Or perhaps the 49ers just like making statements when issues have been fully ironed out. I know that's not good for news hungry fans but..
Didn't Bielsa wait until the week before a new season to confirm his position a couple of times?

An amorphous mishmash of silence and apparent chaos, breds speculation and confusion.
But I suppose there is a data analyst at 49ers who has studied the best way to handle managerial contracts and based on those results the 49ers are following best principles.
The data knows best.

Weirdly, I wasn't fuming, James.
I got over my disappointment on the coach home.
I just felt fortunate to watch Leeds at Wembley in a FA cup semi final the first-time for me since our SF at Maine Road in 1973. I missed the semi-final vs Coventry in 1987.
I was more disappointed after Villa, Watford, Doncaster & Southampton finals.
Derby, Millwall & Carlisle were huge PO semi-final disappointments.
Haven't seen us win or score at Wembley since 1972

Having things running smoothly doesnt sit well with some fans, they need stories to make it sound like the club is falling apart
