It seems we are linked with Gustavo Hamer, once again, maybe pure speculation!

No for me, he’s probably a game changer at times but he’s not the player I’d want at my side in a battle.

Re: Would you be happy with the signing of Gustavo Hamer in the January window? Poll of the Day (18th Dec)
Gustavo Hamer's time in the Premier League with Sheffield United during the 2023-24 season was ultimately underwhelming, as his individual flashes of brilliance were overshadowed by the team's abysmal campaign and his own inconsistencies.
Arriving for £15 million amid high expectations from his standout Coventry performances, Hamer managed just 4 goals and 6 assists in 36 appearances (33 starts), numbers that look modest at best in a side that conceded relentlessly and finished rock bottom with a mere 16 points. Critics pointed out that while he delivered occasional long-range stunners, such as volleys against Tottenham and Brighton, his overall impact was diluted in a dysfunctional midfield, with some fans and analysts labeling him a disappointment for failing to elevate the team or consistently dominate games against superior opposition.
Reports from the time highlighted periods of laziness, poor tracking back, and an inability to impose himself, leading to accusations that he looked out of his depth in the top flight despite being billed as Premier League-ready.
Hamer's well-documented temperament issues and poor disciplinary record further undermined his Premier League stint, a pattern that has plagued his career. Known for a fiery edge, he has racked up over 70 yellow cards across his professional career, including multiple seasons with double-digit bookings, most notoriously 15 yellows in one Championship campaign at Coventry, which his then-manager Mark Robins branded "absolutely ridiculous."
In the Premier League, while he avoided red cards, his propensity for needless fouls and suspensions from earlier years raised questions about his maturity under pressure. Injury concerns also played a role, with niggles like a thigh issue forcing him off in key matches and contributing to perceptions of fragility.
Combined with fan frustration over his form dipping in a relegation battle, these factors painted Hamer as a talented but flawed midfielder who struggled to adapt fully to the demands of the Premier League, ultimately reinforcing Sheffield United's swift return to the Championship.
Seems he has no fight for a relegation battle... and would a Blade give his all for Leeds?

Re: Would you be happy with the signing of Gustavo Hamer in the January window? Poll of the Day (18th Dec)
We need something like him and he maybe the most affordable, very good for a poor Sheffield United, averaging a goal contribution every three games is very solid...
If you think Leeds are better than that Sheffield United side then no reason t oassume he couldn't do better for us
End of the day I'm ambivalent but Farke seems to rate him whereas he doesn't rate Gnonto (who's our comparable player) A lot dependson price and salary, less than 10M would be great and allows us to play him as a rotational/situational player, 20M and you kind of have to start him.

With Sheffield United struggling in 17th place in the Championship table (around 23 points from roughly 21-22 matches), Hamer's dip in form has been highlighted as a key factor in the team's inability to mount a promotion challenge. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 8:39 am We need something like him and he maybe the most affordable, very good for a poor Sheffield United, averaging a goal contribution every three games is very solid...

Reports describe this season as "frustrating" and "uncharacteristically poor" for the midfielder, who hasn't been able to "drag the team out of the fire" as he did previously. His underlying stats show some promise (e.g., 1.7 xG and 2.3 xAG), but he's underperformed expectations, leading to speculation about a potential January or summer exit if promotion isn't achieved, especially with his contract entering its final year. Overall, Hamer has looked a shadow of his former self amid the Blades' mid-table mediocrity.

Re: Would you be happy with the signing of Gustavo Hamer in the January window? Poll of the Day (18th Dec)
We need a Hamer type player, as we lack creativity. Whether it should be him or not is anybody's guess. His relatively poor form this season may simply be a reflection of a wider malaise at Blunts, and it does seem that if he doesn't perform, the team don't so he may be feeling that he's having to carry a poor side. Maybe the lad needs a change of scenery? But do we want a player who supposedly goes missing in games and doesn't track back etc? Lots of ifs, buts and maybes. At the right money, he has the potential to be a very good impact player, but they will look to get every penny they can for him and we shouldn't be held to ransom for him, or anyone else for that matter. Ultimately, it could all just be speculation and more lazy "journalism".

Re: Would you be happy with the signing of Gustavo Hamer in the January window? Poll of the Day (18th Dec)
I think we could certainly use a creative type like Hamer. Whether Hamer is the best fit may not be the question rather is he the best fit of the realistic options?
He wasn't in the Sheff U team early on in the season as Sheff U started horrendously. Maybe a hangover from the play-off disappointment for the team, a new manager or whatever but they struggled. Hamer perhaps struggling more than most perhaps disappointed not to get a big move having been the EFL player of the year. At a reasonable price though I would take a chance as this team lacks a creative spark from someone who can see, and deliver, a pinpoint defence splitting pass.
He can fit in both of Farke's better systems in my modest opinion. In the 4231, used last season, he can play the 10 role and be given freedom and also in the 532 role he can play as the 10/2nd striker playing off the target man (likely DCL or Nmecha if DCL is injured). I think he has the intellect to pick up good positions, read the play and get on the loose balls. He would then find himself in great positions to dictate play or even have a long range effort, which I believe he is good at.

It's all about levels again, can he produce his good championship form in the Premier League, I'm unconvinced. His fitness & disciplinary record are also a concern for me.Sean_Nile wrote: ↑Thu Dec 18, 2025 8:21 am Gustavo Hamer's time in the Premier League with Sheffield United during the 2023-24 season was ultimately underwhelming, as his individual flashes of brilliance were overshadowed by the team's abysmal campaign and his own inconsistencies.

Personally I think we would be better off trying to sign Victor Torp from Coventry. Seven goals and 3 assists so far this season.
Whether Coventry would be willing to let him go is an entirely different matter. Would take a sizeable fee i expect.

The consensus seems to be sell Willy to get Gustavo. A far better option would be to play Willy in a Gustavo roll.

Would like to have signed him when we were in the Championship.

We need a creative spark, Hamer provides that.
Would he be side before self or a problem in the changing room? I'm not convinced.
He hasn't appeared keen previously when linked with Leeds.
I certainly wouldn't sell Willy to get him in.
So no from me.

The majority are of the opinion of No/Indifferent with regard to Hamer,
If he is that good, why has no club taken a punt on him?

Hamer, low mileage, built well, but not exactly what you looking for to get you the distance. Better Options out there.

It's a No from me.
While he looks good in the Championship - not sure he could have the PL impact we need.

Fitness and discipline a concern, but I did go 'Yes'
Just a gut feeling that he might shine in a better team (than the Blades) and could be the creative spark we lack in midfield.
Depends on the price of course!!
That being said rather keep Willy if that were the choice.
