We got 7m for our past woes and have spent 98m, what a fantastic achievement by LUFC it will be if we manage to stay up, and right in the face of the naysayers' if Farke goes and does exactly that seeing as they think we've bought nothing but garbage.

Alright lads, it's abeen a while.
How's Longstaff settling in? For us he was always a decent lad and hard worker. Never going to be the most talented footballer, or the one to unlock a stubborn defence, but the lad worked his knackers raw and had a good football brain.
He was decent against us, for sure.
Good luck for the season and if you need pub advice for the return fixture, let me know.
Cheers

Hopefully make a decent back up, think we overpaid a bit but Stach/Tanaka/Ampadu looks our best centre mid by a distance, and Aaronson is another very good works his bollocks off type. The Fish wrote: ↑Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:39 am Alright lads, it's abeen a while.

He will become part of a hopefully yet - 'Well-balanced' defensive and attacking unit, he will obviously need to be rested from time to time because of the nature of his game, but i think a winner for where we're currently at and the job in hand.
many thanks again for nipping in

Hi Fish, He had a cracking game against yourselves and could prove to be one of our best signings this season. Pub advice would be appreciated as long as it’s accompanied by 2 ticketsThe Fish wrote: ↑Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:39 am Alright lads, it's abeen a while.

Re: Transfer deadline day
Every step of the way has been mishandled. I don't think we managed the situation well (should have offered him a deal in 2024, or sourced his replacement), Liverpool have been underhanded and Isak has been a ****.
Genuinely hope his career peters out and he ends up as loathed on Merseyside as he is on Tyneside. Just like Owen. I'm not usually one to wish ill on people, but if his knee got absolutely pretzeled while away with Sweden, I'd be sipping tea in the sunshine. His agent has either given him bad advice, or not given him good advice.
Woltemade and Wissa for £120m doesn't look like great business to me. However, I think we were boxed, or boxed ourselves, into an unwinnable position. From what I've read since his departure it sounds like there was zero chance of reintegrating Isak. Reports of players having to be calmed down by teammates when he downed tools. So if we couldn't reintegrate, we'd have to replace. Woltemade might be the replacement for Isak, he might not... But we also had to replace Wilson, or at least the Wilson of a couple of seasons ago. Wissa is that I guess.
The minute Mitchell reneged on the gentleman's agreement to offer a new deal to him in the summer of 2024, we should have been planning for (and lining up) his replacement. Even if Reintegration became feasible, at least have a contingency plan.
Had we planned for his departure, we could have had Ekitke in already for buttons, or Woltemade for a little less and maybe a better striker than Wissa too (JSL went to Wolves for £24m only a few weeks ago, right?). But, because our CEO and DoF positions are still effectively vacant, we're a bit of a rudderless ship. There was a lot wrong with how Staveley and Ghoudoussi lead things, but since their departure we've been a bit over-reliant on Eddie Howe to keep us plotting a steady course. And obviously when things like this window happens, there's little the Head Coach can do.
So from this window we needed a top class striker and a deputy, from a market with a dearth of strikers in general and a surfeit of clubs wanting them. Our task was made harder by having to compete with the established elite clubs suddenly all needing forwards. We can't compete with Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea or Arsenal for the likes of Sesko, Ekitike, Pedro, Delap et al. So we have to unearth another Isak. Woltemade looks promising, but isn't a 20+ goal a season kind of player, the hope is that he'll get 30+ goal contributions but they might be 50/50 goals and assists. £55m is mental money for Wissa, he's only got 1yr left on his deal, he's had one very good season, and he's going to miss some key games due to the AFCON. Would have much preferred JSL from Wolves if we're talking that kind of money; he's younger, has a higher ceiling and is a more prototypical centre forward. Wissa is a goal scorer, but I don't know how we balance him, Woltemade, Elanga, Gordon, and Barnes, when we play with 3 in midfield.
If the Isak and Wissa situations had been sorted at the beginning of the summer I'd be looking at this window with cautious optimism. But it looks like we've overpaid for every transfer, for me. They're all decent players, but £55m for Elanga, £70m for Big Nick, £55m for Wissa, £44m for Ramsey, £30m on Thiaw... Just shy of £200m and while we have definitely improved our strength in depth and raised the floor of the squad, I'm not sure we've been particularly shrewd in the market.
I think we've paid the price (literally) for not being more agile in the market. Again.

What a fantastic educated read Fish, please hang around for input on yours and our team, especially Longstaff, i've got high hopes of him underpinning our fight for first year survival and would appreciate your thoughts going forward on what Farke should do with him. Re: Transfer deadline day
Oh, pub advice.
Newcastle has about 100 pubs within a mile of the ground. None of them are 'away' pubs, and the overwhelming majority will make you welcome as long as you're not causing bother.
Any that are driving up and back on the day; park at the Metrocentre and get the train across. Free, safe, CCTV-ed parking. Plus there's the usual food options in the shopping centre itself for travel snacks on the way back.
Around St James' you've got Shearers which is part of the stadium itself. Big, loud, always busy so if you go I'd recommend getting a couple of rounds at a time, rather than queueing twice. Stack is a boxpark but you might struggle to get inside if you're wearing colours. Not because of any fear of bother, but it's used a lot for social media stuff and they prefer a sea of black and white.
The Strawberry, the home pub, good atmosphere, good beer, you'll have your ears bent about Longstaff and all that, but this will be heaving on matchday.
Rosies was a staple, had a bit of a makeover now but it's still decent.
Tilleys is a bit further from the stadium but great range of beers and good atmosphere.
Forth Hotel and Town Wall are both favourites, the latter is a bit bigger though.
Loads of food and bar recommendations if you're staying over, but that'll do for now I reckon.

I feel they definitely overpaid for Wissa. Hard to know yet if we overpaid for players. I don't think any of our signings were for overly excessive fees - though time will tell. You have suggested Longstaff as an overspend but even if he was it would be by a couple of million I would have thought and certainly not overly excessive given his premier league experience. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 05, 2025 2:25 pm Similar to CJays stuff for us.. but we don't really care what he thinks about Newcastle. The only reason he cost that much is because Brentford had already been picked apart and they knew we were desperate.
