So you reckon half our outfield won't cut it in the PL ?
Another overhaul needed then.

Yup. Look at Burnley, they walked the league and have 13 points. There's a huge gap now. The only thing that might play in our favour, is ffp, so mid table sides won't be able to spend loads.

We'll never be able to compete with the money teams.

Even the likes of Bournemouth and Forest have spent over £200m, so we'd need a lot of investment to compete.

Too right pal, plus we are certain to lose Summerville and Gnonto, hopefully we recoup a lot for those 2.

FFP might help. Teams starting to take it more seriously. Was listed as one of the reasons why the last transfer window was so quiet.

Yep - a rich tapestry of opinions always helps a discussion along. No problems there :)

DDB220 wrote: Sat Feb 17, 2024 5:52 pm Kamara is decent at this level - there is a reason he hasn’t had a prem career after leaving Arsenal. No idea how Gruev will fare. Amps is quality so I have no concerns about him, similarly I think Archie can take the next step. Our squad is relatively young and lacks Prem experience. We have 19 players out of contract in the summer if you include Roberts and Rodon.
25 million for KP is a no brainer for me. I do not subscribe to the suggestion he can only play in a 4141. It may be his best role but I am confident after a few more games at Spam he will start to get his mojo back if he is fit.
 Kinhell ! Is that reet :?:

I wouldn't touch KP with a bargepole mysen for £25m

There are also doubts thru this whole current Leeds team and whether they are gonna be able to step up, this Championship is weak, as Ipswich are all too easily showing after stepping up comfortably from Div 1 and aquiring the pts they have.
It is 50/50 on virtually all our players just how good they'll be against the speed and quality of a Prem player, especially over the course of a full season.

Me neither. If we go up we have to spend what money we have wisely and spending on KP would be spending in an area where we are reasonably strong.

Strange as it seems at first glance he is also fairly much unproven apart from in the role Bielsa had him playing in. He was decidely average for us pre-Bielsa, Guardiola was completely dismissive of him and whilst he has played for England it is hard to know how good he actually was considering the immense talent around him which made us far better then most of the teams we played. I have made the point previously that if you put a competent Sunday League player into a fantastic team, say Pep's Barcelona, they would likely look all right for a while because they would have so many good players around them that they would get passes played to them at the right pace and they would always have options to pass to. I don't know if KP would fit into Farke's system any better than Ampadu who has also shown, espescially since moving into defence, that he can play a decent long ball.

It's costing Newcastle ... they're short of players but not money

I feel sorry for the lad. Two years of bench warming and being shamed publicly by "the best manager in the world" has ruined all his confidence and sharpness. He was happy and confident at Leeds, but that looks long gone now. The wolves will be out for him scrutinising his every mistake now, which will only make it worse for him. Hindsight is great and all, but staying at Leeds would've been better for him than having a few medals.

KP made a huge mistake signing for City. His career hit the buffers but he decided to stick it out even when he was hardly able to kick a ball in anger for Citeh. In the meantime, Gareth Southgate did him no favours at all by picking him to play for England in this double pivot type role with Declan Rice. It suited what GS wanted to do which was to bore the pants off people playing sideways, backwards and across the pitch and hope to win tournament games. It papered over the cracks of a rusty and non match fit Phillips and it appears that neither KP wanted to admit it to himself nor was there anyone close to him that was brave enough to point out that the Emperor was wearing no clothes. He bizarrely won medals with Citeh even though he hardly got on the pitch and played any football for them. He "earned" a life changing amount of money and still the penny never dropped about his career or, if did, KP must have decided to stick rather than twist.

Guardiola had long since made his mind up and moved on without seeing any need to explain or say anything to KP about his Citeh career. KP continued to fail to smell the coffee and wanted to stick around at Citeh even when month by month he was falling down the pecking order for selection.

The way things have started at Wet Spam for him, it seems to me that KP's football career is where it was when the hapless Thomas Christiansen took the reigns at Leeds United. It is a disaster for him just now. There is still a player in there somewhere but whether that person will rise and make a fist of it or fall by the wayside is a 50/50 call as I see it.

There is no one to blame or point the finger at in respect of KPs football career other that the man himself. He's made some duff choices in life and been blind to the opportunities that were available to him

Leeds United, IMHO would not be the answer for KP nor would it be an answer for Leeds United. That ship has sailed on both fronts. We can keep a passing interest in an ex-player as we do but then move on to the future as should he.

I agree with him, never ever a " Yorkshire Pirloe" that went to his head, and he foolishly believed the hype, couldn't lace the great Italians boots.

KP made a poor career move and is paying the price for no real football in 18 months now. Strange signing all round from both club and player. Would have been better off taking the Villa move.

Proves Bielsa is better than Pep though ;-)

It did look the perfect move though at the time. If he'd gone to Villa he may have done just as poorly there. Shame he didn't go to Old Toilet and stink the place out.

I think it is still possible albeit there is likely only a short window where it would be possible before the richer clubs lure your players away. We saw with the O'Leary team that we were able to compete before we spent crazy money. There were some shrewd buys, MIchael Bridges, Viduka and Dacourt for example mixed with the cream of our youth setup and the players we already had at the club like Nigel Martyn, Lucas Radebe and Lee Bowyer.

GK Martyn/Robinson
RB Kelly
LB Harte
CB Woodgate
CB Radebe
DM Dacourt
CM Bakke
RW Bowyer
LW Kewell
FW Viduka
FW Smith/Bridges

If you look at that side then it wasn't expensively assembled. Viduka & Bridges were bought with the money from selling Hasselbaink.

If we had that team now then we'd be top 4. So you need a mix of good recrutiment and a good youth setup and then for it all to come good so that you don't get the vultures swooping in before you start winning trophies. If you can start winning trophies and then maximise the additional revenue that brings and keep your players then you have a chance. Leicester were unable to do that as they started losing players straightaway so they had no chance to maximise revenue and show it wasn't a flash in the pan. Where we have a chance is because of us being the sleeping giant. We already have near 40,000 fans going to every home match, improve the stadium and that is 55,000 to 60,000. We have the worldwide name and the potential to be big in the US so if we tap in to that when we achieve success then we can bring in decent money and it would all be money that could be spent without breaking FFP as it wouldn't simply be owner funded.

Bowyer was the most expensive teenager in Britain at the time, imagine buying the same now !
Also, we were an established PL side then, we aren't even in the same league now.
I do agree with 55,000 - 60,000 crowd would certainly help financially, also the Americans are very good at promoting, but when is that about to happen, I've seen nothing of promotion for us over here let alone in the USA.
I don't think we'll ever compete financially.
