Re: Javi Gracia- Welcome
Was interesting that for a man who traditionally hasn't used width and isn't a big fan of wingers he did the opposite yesterday.
We had plenty of width and crosses.
And although he did try the inverted wide men he favours when he saw it wasn't working brilliantly he allowed Harrison to go left and Summerville to go right.
Is that a case of a manager adapting to what he has maybe?
Rather than trying to shoehorn his ideals on an unsuited squad?

Not sure we are a team that has that luxury CW, it's goona be interesting to say the least when both Sinisterra and Willy are available, i'm currently edging towards Sinisterra once he gets his chance, be nice to be proved wrong though.Clitheroe White wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 8:37 am Nice to have options but would have thought when you have a talent like Gnonto you find a way to allow him to sing.
I'm looking forward to the Chelsea set up considering how Potter's got them playing.
I'm hoping Javi's got some of the Bert studying opponents obsession about him.

Re: Javi Gracia- Welcome
I wouldn't mind seeing that again, i'm not 100% but thought he was perhaps stumbling over which affected his chance to get direction on the ball, first thoughts were ' ya greedy ba***rd' but then i think i saw on the replay he couldn't quite kick it properly.Bluebucket wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 10:03 am Those of you who see the team week in, week out, tactically, what was different? The main thing I noticed from my armchair highlights was that Ayling and Firpo were pressing really high up.
Much as I love Summerville, he really needs to play the team game - that shot where he should have crossed for Jack to put it into the net was really dreadful play.

Javi Gracia post Fulham
Gracia is here - how unlucky?
In this moment I am really disappointed because we were unlucky. Created many chances. Not clinical and we did not finish with composure, but after we scored the disallowed goal (very soft), we were close to changing the dynamic of the game, but we did not score
How to improve finishing?
Work on it. Training. Analyse why. Confidence is important. It's coming from good results. Like a cycle. Work on it is all we can do.
See your plan developing?
Yes, in the first half we tried to press with three. Changed in the second half and put only three layers against three at the back to create more risks, but we had good balance. They did not create many chances, but scored two great goals.
Rutter - opinion?
When we were attacking, sometimes he was alone. Like the rest of the players, they had a good level. Only thing is improving the chances we have.
Kristensen at CB?
Played really well. Spoke with him before the game to tell him I wanted him in there and he agreed. He said he will play where the team needs him and he's a very good pro always putting the team, before himself. Played very well. Focused because he was concentrated on the game. Really well.

Not me, i'm hoping i'm in heaven, just wait till Javi discovers what he's got to try and form a team out of and what he's been given to work with, Jeez it's gonna be interesting to say the least, some of us can see where he's going with 'it' but fck me, he's been handed, some good, some bad and some fcking ugly !

Re: Javi Gracia
Feel like he should be praised a bit
He wasn't anyone's first choice, probably didn't even make the top 20.
But in a very short space of time he has made us a much more organised side.
Much more defensive structure beyond let's run around chasing the ball or the man everywhere.
He has limited Southampton and Fulham to basically 0 Clear cut chances.
It's It's pleasant change and the football isnt unpleasant either.
I like it so far.

Agree. Just wish he'd tried something different last night rather than the same predictable subs.Cjay wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 2:14 pm Feel like he should be praised a bit

Re: Javi Gracia
Was disappointing but most managers do that tbf.
Harrison and Bamford are being paid a lot of money, I imagine Orta made it clear they need to be used
Just hope he doesn't drop Gnonto, Summerville or Rutter for Chelsea for them.
We look a better team though.
We have more chance of survival with Gracia than with kamikaze football.

We look like a football team rather than a collection of human sized bees.
The more I look at Marsch ball the more I wonder how it worked at all.
Chaos to structure.
Big change for the players too.
Like the look of what he’s trying to do, especially under the circumstances.

Re: Javi Gracia
I think Gnonto's gonna have to get used to the bench, especially when Sinisterra is fit, Jimmy as well, but both will be good impact subs, can't see them liking that though, especially Willy.

Re: Javi Gracia
Willys reaction to our goal against Southampton didn't seem much like a guy who was huffing because he had been taken off. Sprinted half a pitch ( next time he needs to stay off it, lol ) to join in the celebrations. I think some people over react to seeing players taken off and them not being pleased.

Re: Javi Gracia
Indeed, no harm in a player being disappointed and angry to be taken of as long as it is because they wanted to influence the result rather than it just being an ego knock. Like you say Gnonto's reaction to the goal shows how much he loves been part of the team and how much he wants us to win.GreennWhite wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 5:04 pm Willys reaction to our goal against Southampton didn't seem much like a guy who was huffing because he had been taken off. Re: Javi Gracia
Deserves a lot of praise and hopefully there is a lot more to come. He has only been here a week and has probably only had 2, maximum 3 training sessions to get his ideas across.Cjay wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 2:14 pm Feel like he should be praised a bit

I'm well happy up to now, still early days and i hope what i know he's gonna try pays off.
I'm more worried about the tools he's gonna have to use and rely on.
Brave man - might surprise us all, i hope so.
