+ Our first team would have beaten theirs tonight. Farke dropped the ball for the first time this season.

- Having nightmares about both Trafford and DCL getting injured at the same time.

Steady debut by Bard (less said about the other debutant the better)

N. A bizarre thirty minutes when everything they touched turned to gold.
Still think the incredibly soft pen turned the game.
Gave Palmer the freedom to do what he wanted (no extra midfielder to combat this)
Farke should have reacted to the subs straight away after 2-0 up.

I agree with that analysis. Its easy to do 'shoulda, coulda, woulda', but it was a bizarre game - so much so its hard to really take too much from it ... other than

- we have to learn to play a consistent 90 minutes of football. This is the 3rd game in a row we have a good half and then a bad half.

- new additions have really added value, but now Im worried about form of Stach and Longstaff.

- yet another game involving one of the uber rich teams where the play (and result?) turned on very poor referring.

- playing on the road for all but 1 so far is bloody ridiculous.

Positive:
I thought Melvin Bard showed that he can help us once he is settled a bit. And having another competent LB is a big deal!!

Negative:
Farke's experimentation with turning Ampadu into a box to box midfielder. Can we call it a failure and get back to what works already? Goalkeeping and defense should be the strength of this team.

If we make changes at half time then likely Aaronsen isn't on and we don't go 2-0 up. Far easier to make a raft of changes when you have players like Palmer on the bench and your team has been outplayed for the last 30 minutes of the first half. Chelsea needed to make a change because we'd taken control of the match during the first half after playing ourselves into the game early on.

As it is the penalty turned the match. With our second goal, like Jon Newsome said, we'd silenced their crowd and taken the wind out of their sails after their changes. They get the ludicrous penalty, a lifeline, and a couple of minutes are level. A couple more minutes and we're behind. Farke then trying to bring subs on and as we are waiting for them to come on the 4th goes in.

I like the way we battled back after that. Showed good character. But to suggest we should have made changes at half time is just something a manager shouldn't do when they are controlling a match - note Farke made early changes against Brentford because of how poor we had been in that match.
