Imagine if we spent £30M on a second string goal-keeper for the bench....

Btw Pope is only England material because the stocks are so low.

I had to smile when Pope was interviewed on Sky Sports this morning. Something along the lines of "I supported Ipswich as a boy growing up and Bobby Robson was a hero and when he moved to Newcastle all the family who are Ipswich supporters watched his career at Newcastle with interest so I've watched Newcastle" He was almost squirming as he spoke, so....nothing to do with the massive pay day then Popey?

Southampton had Alex McCartney,Fraser Foster and Angus Gunn at one point.

Newcastle now have Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow.

It's not uncommon to have 2 genuine number 1 quality goalkeepers.

I'd have taken Pope for £10mil over Meslier id also take Dubravka.

If you remember, Darlow was linked in a move to Leeds pretty much the entirety of Bielsa's first season.

I don't recall if we actually put a bid in or not. But we went in for Casilla instead.

The rest is history.

Meanwhile Darlow's career is rotting away now. He needs to move

Maybe we'll go in for Darlow again, in this transfer window.

Darlow would be a decent back-up keeper, Rook

Does Darlow not want to play football? I wouldn't go from being back up at Newcastle to being back up at Leeds..

Three goals in the last ten minutes for the magpies in their 5-1 victory over near neighbours Gateshead with Almiron grabbing a brace.

Newcastle have been very quiet in the transfer window so far this summer with just the signing of Matt Taggett.

Be amazed if Leicester sell (but then again not because Leicester are pretty skint).

If however Leicester don't sell I wonder if Newcastle may up the Harrison offer?

The barcodes won five of their six friendlies, Newcastle's only defeat was at Benfica 3-2 in Portugal.

Surprisingly, Newcastle have only spent £15m on Matt Targett, Sven Botman for £32m & Nick Pope (undisclosed fee)

Likely to change with a couple of big signings during August.

I think the Toon will be a safe top 12 bet.....their manager knows what he's doing.

Not a bad result at Brighton for us. They're a good side now, if a little toothless up front. Against a worse 'keeper or with a better striker they would have deserved all 3pts. Brings into sharp focus our need for another attacking threat.

Mind, a point at Brighton when our final position rivals are faltering is nothing but good news. (Not having a go)

Welcome back, Fish

Good start for the magpies.

Hope we muster a point at Brighton the week after next.

So far, so good. Still need attacking upgrades mind you. Hence our interest in Harrison. And Maddison. And Dieng. And, and, and...

Saudi Arabia's "legal system" gives Leeds University student a 34 year sentence for using Twitter.

Doesn't seem like the Newcastle project is having much of a positive impact on the regime...

... no, but then it wouldn't, would it?

It's going to take years and years of the Saudis diversifying their investments away from oil, moving away from the conservative establishment, modernising and liberalising their country first.

Well it was the nonsense trotted out by the Newcastle LGBT fans to justify their continued support for a club whose owners castrate, flog and even execute gay people. They claimed owning NUFC would have a positive effect on the regime.
