I could have sworn Sound Affects was 1981 but it appears it was November 1980. That's just made my choices even harder! Great album.

Setting Sons is my Jam album of choice, All Mod Cons too ..Sound Affects for me is them running out of speed and Weller heading towards the nasty that is the style council

Interesting that Weller considers Sound Affects his best effort during that period. Was never a Jam fan at the time being more rock orientated,, but having listened to it recently it still seems relevant lyrically.
I'd take Stanley Road or Heavy Soul over this though.
Style Council ,Ghost of Dachau good tune imo

It doesn't surprise me as it, as I say foreshadows the bloody awful Style Council which is clearly the direction he wanted to go. Love the early Jam, don't like anything Weller did since

OK just in case we want to kick off the voting tomorrow, assuming Billy nominates, I'll go

A Teardrop Explodes 'Kilimanjaro'

My second favourite album of the 80's after Surfer Rosa and Julien Cope at his best

A great shame not to see Seventeen Seconds make the final as it would finish top 3 in the poll imo...Also Searching For The Young Soul Rebels will be missed imo.

Party Out Of Bounds and Beat Crazy would make up the rest of my top 5

Just one nomination required in this stage of the poll.

You are quite welcome to join in Mountain, as a massive Bowie fan I'd be very happy to add 'Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)' to the list of nominations if ok with you?

Thought it was just a name your favorite album thread!

I don't quite follow the nomination and join in thing, happy to join any music thread (though will be more synthpop, electronica and house than rock) but guess I'd better scroll back and check what I'm supposed to do...

Fairly simple Mountain, we go from year to year each of us nominating a single album from that year to put forward for a poll. Once we get to the voting phase we pick up to 5 albums in order from that list and it's scored the same way the MOTM is. So 5 pts to 1 if you pick 5, 4 pts to 1 if you pick 4 albums ...etc

You'll see the topic title change to vote when 64 is ready to put it to the vote

I'm sure when he gets a moment he'll post up a list of winners so far

Is the Finn in Finntastic because he's a Split Enz/Crowded House fan or did I just spot a tiny coincidence?
