Muppet the Cat wrote: Fri Nov 20, 2020 8:26 pm Never really been a TV drama watcher. I can recall watching All Creatures Great and Small back in the late 70's/early 80's....but not really much since.

Never any interest in any of the Sky (etc) box set series programmes.......until, in the summer I watched the first episode of 'Gomorrah' on Sky Atlantic. I was hooked and within a couple of weeks I had watched all 48 episodes (over 4 series).

It was the first time I've ever 'binged'. I subsequently sought professional help and haven't relapsed since :)

Edit: - forgot watched 'The A Word', which I thought was really good.
Yeah, I watched Gomorrah recently and thought it was excellent. There's another Italian series called Suburra: Blood on Rome which I'll watch once I'm done with TWD again. If you liked Gomorrah then you should give Sopranos a go.

Fast forward a decade, somebody on Waccoe music thread (probably you) said I had to listen to it, it was fantastic. Bought it again. Still hated it. Gave it away, again. :(

Can't find the TV thread, so I'll put it here, seeing it has a fantastic 60's soundtrack (including a few I had forgotten, but will be eventually making an appearance in the Mega Song poll thread).

The Queen's Gambit. It's about Chess. It is not boring. Only seven episodes.
Queens Gambit was very good Gandalf, only the 7 episodes but no unneeded padding.

Zoe Ball has been banging on about Queens Gambit on Radio 2 recently. I might give it a look.

One of the best foreign series is Berlin Babylon which is set in the time just before Hitler took power in Germany.

It is both decadent and sexy and features cabaret stars and corrupt German officers... low life gangsters, gold, drugs, poisonous gas, the making of p*** movies and a manipulated stock market crash.

What more could you ask for?

Gomorrah is in Italian with subs.

Yes, Lilyhammer is hilarious with the great Steve Van Zandt in the starring role :-D

I would second this, the first season was absolutely remarkable. Big

Also from Germany 'Dark' was excellent. Oblique and bizarre, but very good.

It goes from intriguing series one to what the f**k is this by the last 3/4 series...I gave up start of series 3 as I could see it being a waste of time..

The i Land was a lot better on a similar theme and only one series ...

Pine Gap was good too and considering it's an Aussie set series that's saying a lot
