Sheff Wed

Post by 1964white »

Sheffield Wednesday's 12-point deduction for breaching spending rules has been reduced to six points.

The club were said to have included the sale of their Hillsborough stadium in their 2017-18 accounts despite the ground being sold a year later.

The decision means that the Owls rise to 23rd in the Championship and now have five points instead of minus one.

How did they manage to get their points reduction reduced?

This is incredible, I looked at the championship table after tonight’s results and thought it was a mistake as they were on 5 points but after a bit more reading about the games it turns out to be true. Not sure how they’ve done it but I’m certain it wouldn’t have been reduced if it were us in that situation.

More likely the FL would have doubled it if we had lost the appeal

Because the EFL is toothless and they hired a good lawyer.

Everyone knows Wednesday have taken the piss out of ffp and deserve the 12 point deduction (including there own fans)

Same as Derby.

Even the fans know deep down that they probably should have been punished by now.

I'm up for them having all the points restored if it means Derby are 24th in the table!

They must be on a fiddle once again

Gives encouragement to any other clubs who want to cheat by defying ffp rules in the certain knowledge that all they have to do, if they are given a points deduction, is engage a lawyer, put a bit of pressure on and the EFL will cave in like a pack of cards - wow they are pathetic!

Poor Wgan didn't get the same treatment

Had we contested our -15 points & lost the appeal the FA/FL would have double the amount

FA/FL & FIFA are a disgrace they way the control & run football generally

Utterly ridiculous! Where is the justification for this?

I will stick it here. Just heard on SSN that the cousin/Brother? of the Man City owner (i believe one of the richest men in the world?) is close to a takeover of Derby County.....Not sure why them? But there you go.

Note that the purchase price for the club is £60m which is less than Mel Morris apparently bought the ground for under their dodgy dealings if my memory serves

Ah the truth will out ...always... Cant have them going down then as that would be an extra year towards buying them into the Prem...

Yes, Morris bought the ground for £80m I think. If the club is worth £60m and assuming that includes Prideless Park, then Morris “bought” the ground for well over 3 times its actual value and yet they still managed to avoid a points deduction. You couldn’t make it up!

Apparently its not entirely true.

He is a distant relative.

His net worth is unknown, his family are loaded but the press seem to be getting confused between 2 people.

https://uae-voice.net/sheikh-khalid-bin ... al-nahyan/

He isnt this chap who is someone very important.

He isnt HRH or HH (his royal highness) he is just a distant relative of the important people of a very wealthy family.

In the same way the owner of Sheffield United is of the Saudi Royal family.

Id wait if i were Derby fans before getting excited. They arent getting someone with the wealth of Sheikh Mansour, he is a very important person in the UAE holding important positions, this other bloke is in charge of sailing

They aren't getting a high ranking member of the Al Nahyan family.

They are getting a distant relative who couldn't provide funds to buy Newcastle.

A bloke whose £2bill offer for Liverpool was funded largely by a Chinese investor and a hedge fund not him.

If this guy could afford a Prem club he would have one, he cant.

And there we have the truth about the potential Derby owner.

He is miles off being another Sheikh Mansour.
