Lonergan 7 Made two very good saves. Looks decent on crosses. Beaten by three perfectly placed shots.
Connolly 5 Did nothing of note really. Wasted plenty of possession with poor passing.
Kisnorbo 6 Doesn't look sharp but didn't do a lot wrong to be fair.
O'Brien 2 Had an absolute shocker. At fault for all three goals. Gave attackers several yards before even starting to move and then had the turning circle of a cow.
O'Dea 5 Looks halfway decent having only been at the club for a day. Like Connolly wasted our wide possession and took the worst free kick ever.
Snodgrass 4 Long way off the pace. Was so easily closed down had no chance to do anything positive.
Clayton 6 Anonymous first half but looked a championship player in the second. Battled pretty well and won a (harsh) penalty.
Brown 4 Neutralised himself with silly needless fouls and dissent early on. Southampton's falling over tactics and a ref who could only see backing in at one end of the pitch didn't help but Brown played right into their hands.
Howson 6 One or two decent forward runs in the first half and a crucial run back in the second but failed to influence the game.
Gradel 7 Effectively closed down for the first 20 minutes or so but took players on well. Tried to make a few crosses which is a start I guess. Should have won a penalty much earlier and let frustration get the better of him. Took the penalty well.
McCormack 5 Ran and chased but easily bullied off the ball.

Paynter 4 Wonderfully timed run for his chance but blew an easy finish. Did very little after that.
Nunez 6 Certainly enlivened the game. Ran well and a few good touches and passes.
Sam 6 Looked much sharper than Snodgrass and should have replaced him earlier.

Oh well. We have as many points as we had at this point last season and our goal difference is only one worse... :?
Can't argue with the thrust of that Doc, although I don't think I would have given O'Brien as many as 2 points.

Having slept on it, I'm trying to find some crumbs of comfort from that debacle.

Brown - maybe, just maybe, the fact that he's an ex Portsmouth player and Southampton are their biggest rivals contributed to the red mist that was on him from the first minute. I know the referee was poor, but Brown gave him every opportunity to blow for free kicks, and he looked more like a raw 17 year old than a "wise old head" of 34. I'll give him a couple of games to see if he can change, but if he continues like he did yesterday then he's going to be a complete liability. He certainly isn't, on yesterday's showing, the answer to our DM problem - how I wish we had Doyle or Derry back!

Paynter - I've been trying to work out what on earth Larry sees in him and the answer came in a blinding flash; he must look brilliant in training because he's up against our defence. There again, I'd back Jo to look good against that defence.

Lonergan - blameless for all 3 goals, made a couple of blinding saves that saved us from complete humiliation.

That's as far as I've got in trying to be optimistic about our chances this season

From one who witnessed it first hand
Lonergan 3 was slow down for the first goal
Connolly 2 struggled badly
Kisnorbo 4 showed lack of match practice
OBrien 2 Showed he best days have passed him by
ODea 3 Was a daft selection only been with club two days
Clayton 7 Tried better than anyone
Brown 2 Another one who has come on ameal ticket on this display
Snodgrass 1 Showed no heart looks uninterested
Howson 6 Tried to rally his troops
Gradel 4 showed a few good touches but frazer had him in his pocket
McCormack 5 tried hard but is not atarget man
Paynter 1 for turning up
Nunez 3 Just ran into brick walls
Sam 4 did more in his short time than snodgrass did all the time he was on the pitch

Maybe i was too generous with my telly scores although i did have Howson & Clayton as my highest scores of 6

Brown looks a liability to me, hope he proves me wrong !

His keeper rating is much, much lower than the tele brigade. I'd have Lonergan at 8, and all the time he's in the game he's on the box. so unless he's having a fag whilst the cameras aren't on him I'd say that 3 is either very biased or you don't get the best view at a football match...my guess would be the former

No i am not biased just marked as i saw the game which everyone will have different views you will notice i have not given any high marks because as a team i feel it was a disgusting effort by them if i think a player deserves praise i will give it.

It's just at odds with everybody elses who say Lonergan had a good game and I think he did, Clayton was also praised a little for a decent second half performance...I think personally Southampton took their foot off the gas and made it a little easier for him. I'm reserving judgment. Kis, JH and Lonergan (who did no wrong) escape criticism for me the first two I agree are subjective, judging by what I read here and on waccoe, and with what I saw with mine own eyes the latter is not

I thought Lonnie was very good yesterday and made two or three excellent saves, to stop the scoreline being even more humiliating than it was. O'Brien unsighted him for two of the goals and two of the saves. The Saint's 3rd goal was very well taken, but the striker had all the space he needed, as our defence went awol.
Mind you, Paynter would still have shot wide or at the keeper.

How can you claim that a goalkeeper who let in three goals had a very good game?

He made at least two very good saves, one from Lallana in the first half, and one from a long range shot in the second. The goals he conceded were beautifully placed shots which the strikers had all the time in the world to measure up due to poor defending.

Donny's goalkeeper had a very good game at Elland Road last season. Conceded 5 when he could easily have shipped ten.

Because he wasn't at fault for any of the goals and made some excellent saves to stop a total rout by soton.

He made a couple of good saves that 90% of goalkeepers would make 90% of the time. It happens in every single match at every single level of the game. He wasn't forced to make a dozen or so special saves from a team that rained shots at the Leeds goal. For his performance to be very good he would have prevented those goals regardless of whose fault they were.

You might as well argue that Howson's performance was very good because he had one great effort on goal and put in one good pass or that Max's performance was world class because he forced a number of corners or put in a couple of good crosses or that Clayton's performance was top notch because he did a couple of good things as well etc etc.

Keepers no matter how good they are, if that defence dont do what he tells em he is fucked.
WE''RE LEEDS UNITED, WE''LL NEVER BE DEFEATED!

Paul Green was warnobs best signing.
If you disagree please send me a PM so we can get in to a fight.

I admire your capacity for pain Twiggs, there's no way I could have watched that again.

Apparently, the CIA wanted a copy, but were told by the UN to stick with waterboarding.

Highlight for me on saturday was the dodgy Kisnorbo challenge in the first ten mins,
followed by thick Southhampton fans singing 'Dirty Northern bas*ard'!

Haha,

he's from Melbourne guys, that's about as far south in Australia as you can be!

If he was any more southern he'd be a penguin!
At least until the world stops going round!
