This linguistic shorthand allows members to instantly signal alignment with the group, reinforcing a unified collective perspective while subtly discouraging or even intimidating dissenting takes through social reinforcement and shared vocabulary.

If lots of people think the same thing then it must be right, as opposed to a lone voice crying in the wilderness.
