Re: Sam Byram
Sam was unlucky not to be in my MOTM six.
Sam's best moments of his 16 excellent contributions
Six defensive headers.
Cross into the box that Firpo almost latched onto, leading up to our second goal.
One sublime pass down the line to James (I think).

Re: Sam Byram
Sam is a very intelligent footballer. A lot goes unnoticed because he does the simple stuff really well and often makes the difficult look routine.
He's the perfect squad man this season. Excellent back up to either full back. He proved last season that he couldn't be a regular starter and definitely couldn't start back to back games on 3 days rest. So he's the ideal squad man and will get plenty of playing time due to his versatility

Sam is such a reliable, dependable member of our squad
His goal reminiscence of the one Paulo De Canio scored for West Ham.

Good game seemed to pick up a knock just before coming off, I'd imagine Firpo back for Blackburn? Has he had his three?

I know I have mentioned this previously, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Sam, as it was Sam who my lad had his first photograph taken with when we both started going together.
Always reliable, rarely makes glaring errors and an excellent squad player.

Sam has been a very good freebie signing for us.mentalcase wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 10:27 am Another excellent all round performance from Sam Byram, wish he we re a bit younger .

He's played well for us since he's come in. Shame he can't play more often, far more reliable than Firpo.
One assist and one goal in his three games.

He's a quality player for us at this level. And given his limitations of playing time, he makes for the perfect squad member. Plus the experience he undoubtedly brings to the squad.Onemanstanding wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 3:32 pm He's played well for us since he's come in. Re: Sam Byram
My TV froze when he was about to hit that first left footed volley. And I had a feeling that something good was about to happen. I had to look at it for about 10 seconds before it continued and showed the goal. Almost like they did it on purpose.

Re: Sam Byram
How good were our two wing-backs Sam Byram & Jayden Bogle vs the Owls?
On the pitch for 90 minutes & hardly put a foot wrong.
One of a few players who gives us height & is defensively sound in the air at the back.
22 positive contributions, including:
5 accurate passes
4 defensive headers
3 interceptions
2 runs down the flanks
2 crosses
2 block
2 controlled pieces of defensive play
1 defensive clearance
1 tackle

I was gutted when we sold Sam, he was always a class act. I remember being at ER when we played Spurs in the cup around 2013 - we won 2-1 - and Sam had Gareth Bale in his pocket the whole game, he can't have been much more than 18/19.1964white wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 1:37 pm How good were our two wing-backs Sam Byram & Jayden Bogle vs the Owls?

A great signing on a free and touch wood, he's held up reasonably well on the injury front.

I've stated many times this season, Byram is a quality addition , very underrated by many, normally in my MOMs somewhere when he plays over an hour, very reliable, only wish he were younger, hopefully some will learn from him.

Byram's debut season, he was consistently good amongst the dross in 2012/2013
I recall saying on our coach journey to the match, there is no way we'll beat Spurs with the likes of Peltier, Lees, Brown, Green & Reg Varney in our team.
How wrong could I be?
Varney opens the scoring & McCormack scores a cracking 2nd goal.
What a memorable day!

Re: Sam Byram
Best game in his last three or four. Struggles with consistancy and fitness, the latter maybe effecting the former. Still happier with a more attacking wing back but good cover
