Joel was slicker than a ferret up a teddy boy's drainpipe trouser leg and the way he pocketed that ball home he could have been Ronnie O'Sullivan on the 147 point snooker break.

We had 21 shots and amazingly 11 of those were blocked.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:11 pm If you look at our stats when we choke, we're dominant
For Sunderland: Coventry had 53% possession and Sunderland had 9 shots to 8
Certainly doesn't make Sunderland look like a top of table team.
The ball didn't fall for us much today and Qpr were well organised defensively, but really should have won a lot easier.

I just checked, they sold 19M worth of talent and brought in 15M this summer. This was after spending 25M when they promoted to the PL. They depended heavily on loans knowing they were never going to survive up there.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:06 pm How did Luton ever get promoted?
What happened to parachute payment advantage?
So they have one hell of a war chest if they need to delve into it. Probably 150M from Tv and parachute payments
I dont think they will

I would like to see a gap starting to form between us and 3rd leading up to Christmas because one thing is for certain we won't go on a winning run like we did last season.
Even after todays win I'm far from convinced we'll get auto promo

I don't think we could have dropped any more points than we did during that run in Andrew, and fresh legs might have helped a bit.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:14 pm I'm totally agreed. Fatigue killed us last season and Farke's unwillingness to use his bench. (Wrongly or rightly - he may have used his bench and dropped more points)
Schmidt needs to be pushed into the team more. Gilly needs to be picking up a few more minutes. Wober ? He's fit enough to get called up for Austria but can't get 5 minutes off the bench.
Wober, I don't think he wants to be here and Farke doesn't accommodate anyone whose not giving 100% in training, or whose mind appears to be elsewhere.

Same here, I doubt very much that we are getting promoted.
Creating a gap depends on us winning matches on a consistent basis, and there's no evidence that this will happen this season, which was also the case during the run in last season.

How often is that the story? I wonder if there's a blocked shots table. I'm sure we'd be top.

Re: Leeds Utd v Queens Park Rangers Match Thread
It argues both ways. During that post christmas run, we won a lot of games but we weren't burying teams. And the whole time we were trailing the top 2. It would have been a gamble to rotate or make early subs. And that might have cost us points. Personally I always trusted players like Cresswell and Joffy. But Farke never did. If he'd given them minutes and we'd dropped to a late equalizer he'd have been blamed.White Riot wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:27 pm I don't think we could have dropped any more points than we did during that run in Andrew, and fresh legs might have helped a bit.

But where it did cost us was in the final (4 or 5?) games.

Probably makes sense. If a team puts more men behind the ball, they'll block more shots. And if we're dominating games, having more shots at goal then anyone else then we'll have more blocked shots too.
That said, I do wish we were more incisive in front of goal. Wilko definitely knew what he was doing when he brought in an untalented big poacher in Chapman. And a wily old fox in Strachan. Two things this side is missing.

A point ahead of the 2019 season.
Im relaxed going into the Nat break.
Not sure how many will be away but those two weeks will do us no harm to get some training in.
