Jesse Marsch rings the changes for the League Cup tie against Wolves with a mix of youth and experience in the starting eleven. Veteran shot stopper Joel Robles will make his debut between the sticks with a defence of Ayling, Firpo, Llorente and Hjelde ahead of him. It’s good news to see Leo Hjelde back in the mix having recovered from an appendectomy which has kept him out for the past few weeks.

Darko Gyabi and Mateusz Klich will run the show in midfield with Jack Harrison, Sonny Perkins, Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph make up the attacking options. It’s a very inexperience but exciting selection from Marsch, Joseph and Perkins in particular have been excellent for the U21s this season and it will be great to see them make their first team debuts tonight.





Team selection is certainly interesting for this one. Leeds will be looking for a decent cup run this season and Wolves are absolutely beatable right now. But with an eye on the Spurs game three days later Marsch has chosed to rest the majority of his first team players. Points in the league are much more important at this seage and we've got a good chance of getting something from the Spurs game given their current injuries. And, let's not forget our record against the Rich 6 this season.

Wolves find themselves in the precarious position of the drop zone. With ten points from fourteen games, only goal difference separates them above Nottingham Forest at the foot of the table. This will be Julen Lopetegui's first game in charge of the West Midlands outfit. He is predicted to rest a number of first team players in preparation for Saturday's game against Arsenal. Diego Costa is suspended after headbutted Ben Mee (last month v Brentford). He received a straight red card for violent conduct.

I agree wholeheartedly, the spurs game at this stage is far more important, given they are away at forest the same night it will be interesting to see what their team will be.
I'd much prefer a chance to beat spurs and give some kids a chance v wolves.

I'm mostly OK with your line up. But do think that Adams could use a rest. Didn't Marsch say on the Bamford injury that he'd be back for Spurs?

Id missed what Marsch said re Bamford.

Adams, I was working on a couple of premises really.

He is the only proper defensive screen at the club who is fit and also it is only two games left now ahead of the WC break.

he could play in both I reckon.

Team selection will be interesting for this one. It looks like we want to give the cups a fair hit. And Wolves are absolutely beatable right now. But we also play Spurs 3 days later. There will be a case to play many of the fringe players. Ayling, Fripo, Llorente, Klich are senior players in need of more game time. And there's a case for the younger players in Gnonto, Greenwood, Gelhardt, Drameh, and possibly Klaesson. It would probably be too much to expect to see Perkins, Gyabi, or Joseph.

I can see a handful being rested. Workhorses like Adams and Aaronson probably sit out. And Rodrigo has been game to game the past couple of weeks.

I think Jesse prioritizes the Spurs game, but still puts out a team capable of winning.

I'm going with:

Gyabi and Jospeh didn't play at all for 21's today, indicating they'll probably be involved. Perkins came off the bench.

Klaesson and Drameh played. Cody will probably be disappointed not be involved in a Cup game.

Leeds will be without the services of Patrick Bamford, Adam Forshaw, Stuart Dallas and Luis Sinisterra on Wednesday evening as they face off against Wolves for a place in the fourth Round of the League Cup.

The Leeds No 9 was a surprise exclusion from their Match day squad that beat Bournemouth 4-3 on Saturday. It is believed he picked up an injury in training, but details of the ailment have not been released. Bamford has not completed 90 minutes of game time since September 17th 2021.

It remains to be seen whether Jesse Marsch makes wholesale changes to his starting line up, knowing they face a trip to Spurs at the weekend, before the squad jets off to Spain.

Always feels like there's a bit of game theory putting together the lineups for domestic cups, especially this one. How strong a lineup will the other guys field? how can we stay a step ahead of them without sacrificing league points? Etc.

If Bamford really can't play at all that's too bad, because this would feel like a great chance to let him build confidence against a not quite motivated opponent. I agree with everyone about giving Aaronson a rest, and probably Adams too.

It's a particular interesting spot because the newer guys up front are on the verge of replacing some of the veterans. To me Gnonto should already be first team, but he's young so I'd probably start him here and take him out after 45 (planning to start him vs Spurs) depending on game state.

Will be interesting seeing the lineup as I think we would all agree that PL points are more important than a cup run at this stage (though I know we would love to see us it give it a go). However, PL points are even more critical for Wolves and so they will also be faced with a conundrum on whom to lineup. Every chance of winning this game and progressing on, though they might also get the new manager bounce.

We have great kids breaking through and hopefully Sinisterra will be back after the WC but can they sustain consistency ? I still think a proper number 9 who has the knack of being in the right place at the right time is worth 15 goals a season and keeps us comfortable in mid table or even pushing for Europe. Our board are skinflints and if they think our kids will just see us keep surviving I think that's the route they'll take.

Cup run and Leeds have not featured in a sentence together for many years. I think there was a blip when Colin got us to the quarterfinals.

For me we need the momentum ie keep winning. Love to see Perkins come of the bench as well as Gyabi.

A difficult one for Marsch which ever team he picks. If he picks essentially a 1st team, even if he wins there will be fans saying he should have rested a few for the more important game against Spurs. If he picks essentially a 2nd team and loses then those same fans will be saying he’s missed the chance of a cup run.

Be interesting to see what sort of team Wolves put out. They need EPL points even more than we do and they have Arsenal on Saturday.
