man marking ?
After a few comments on here that MB's system didn't really involve man marking, I thought that a picture speaks a thousand words.
I'm sure that Specsavers could make some kind of an ad out of this....

Re: man marking ?
And yet it also shows Bamford not man marking but closing down options and a spare man at the back for us. You could also looking at the same photo say we are as much zonal marking as we are man marking as we have 1 full back and 2 centre backs in zonal positions and the other full back getting back into the zonal shape. In the midfield 2 central midfielders are in central midifeld positions. The left winger is in fairly much his rightful position, the no.10 likewise. Bamford in a central striker position. The only player not in a zonal position is the right winger.CHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 6:36 pm After a few comments on here that MB's system didn't really involve man marking, I thought that a picture speaks a thousand words.

I notice as well that the photo is from last season's match v Liverpool when we lost 4-3. Don't think many were comlaining about how we were makring then given that we lost 4-3 mainly thanks to some generous home biased refereeing.

Re: man marking ?
Bamford has a choice in the photo - either get up close to mark one of the C/Bs, or do what he was doing, which was to sit between them and hope that it puts pressure on both of them - though he's clearly much close to the C/B without the ball. It's not stopping the C/B with the ball in terms of his options, as Bamford is nowhere near enough to him to close him down, and if they moved further apart he would be taken out of the game even more than in the picture. Actually, it looks to me as though Bamford was originally marking the C/B without the ball, and then when the other C/B had posession he started to run towards him. Either way, one C/F versus two C/Bs is of little use in terms of pressing.weasel wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 7:45 pm And yet it also shows Bamford not man marking but closing down options and a spare man at the back for us. In this picture the team is in shape in terms of its formation - so naturally you could argue that as well as a man marking formation it's also a zonal system. That's because the opposition are also keeping their original shape. What the picture doesn't show is what happens if the opposition decide to drag our players to where they want them to be - for example their forwards dragging our defenders towards the half way line and beyond, or their midfielders dragging our midfielders out wide to make room for the free C/B to advance forward down the middle.
With a rigid man marking system you are effectively outsourcing decisions about the positioning of your players to the opposition manager and its players.

Re: man marking ?
This gives a better idea of what happened when the opposition dragged our players out of position ;
"Mason Greenwood received a pass by dropping to midfield from his position and Pascal Struijk marked him and came high up on the pitch. At the same time, Bruno moved right and Koch tracked him, and Leeds’s disorganized defense line became completely exposed. When Paul Pogba took a run in free space, Greenwood passed the ball to Pogba, who got a chance to take an attempt with Ilan Meslier at a one-on-one position. "
"Bruno dropped his position and went to his own defensive half and made his marker Koch out of position. At that time, when Harry Maguire passed to him, Bruno’s one-touch back-flick evaded the entire Leeds midfield."

Re: man marking ?
Nope that shows us losing possession and then having too many players further forward than the lazy MU players who hadn't bothered to track back. Like i have said many times the problem was giving the ball away not system/formation.

Who cares?
Marsch doesn’t do it, and he’s our manager now.
Another Chapelallman thread focused on Bielsa.

Yep.
3 seasons late in his analysis.
A bit like me in the tackle.

Marsch OUT
Football has undergone a process of bielsification; pressing and possessing, passing rather than dribbling, intercepting high up the field rather than making last-ditch tackles, are in vogue.
Marcelo Bielsa. The light that will never go out.

Re: man marking ?
Just push off - you have nothing to say except throw out insults. You seem to know nothing about football, tactics, formations etc.

Some of us with a bit more intellect are interested in tactics, formations etc.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 10:26 pm Who cares?

At least with Weasel he makes an attempt at some kind of counter argument rather than just lobbing vacuous insults at others who don't hold your viewpoint, or who don't have Bielsa shrines in their houses.
Anyway, if you bothered to read through previous threads you will find that Bielsa's name is continuously brought up by those who were smitten by him and who still are. If you like I will copy and paste every single example, as you're obviously not the kind of person who takes much notice of hard facts. Tell me - when the subject of the previous manager is always brought up by these people are the rest of us then supposed to ignore what they say and change the subject ? You are illogical as well as factually incorrect.

Re: man marking ?
In one shot you have Koch deep in the opposition's half because he's followed his marker. His main role as the DM was to shield the defence, so he should never have been in that position on the pitch in the first place. That's not a case of being simply being caught too high up the field - it's a deliberate tactic by the opposition.

You are just a troll who has nothing intelligent to say about the football.
At least Weasel comments about the actual fotball - you are another troll. Mocking emojis is usually a sign of a troll.

He's already blocked Hector. In fact both the trolls on here are being blocked.
There are too many on here who have nothing to say about tactics, formations etc. They just insult people and act like trolls - they are just on here to get reactions from people, not to debate.

Let's just chill out, as I've expressed before there's greater things in life to give power to. It doesn't take much to be respectful towards each other.
