Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 2nd May) Should Leeds go for broke on Saturday

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Thursday 2nd May, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Should Leeds go for broke on Saturday

It's gonna take a miracle for Leeds to make up the three point deficit, and finish above the Tractor Boys, so, would it make more sense to rest some players ahead of the play off's? Giving certain players (Summerville, Gruev, Gray, Rutter, Ampadu and Rodon) the day off, may give them valuable recovery time, ahead of the play off's, but at the same time, any vague hopes we have for automatic promotion further diminish!

Not only would Leeds need to beat Southampton, but relegated Huddersfield Town would have to overcome Ipswich Town on their own turf. Even at their very best, the Terriers winning at Portman Road is highly unlikely; and that is before investigation the tenuous relationship the Whites share with their Yorkshire foes!

Liverpool line up Summerville bid

Liverpool are plotting the capture of Leeds star Crysencio Summerville this Summer, according to multiple reports in the press. The 22 year old Dutchman has been on Liverpool's radar for a while, and have sent multiple scouting missions to follow his progress this season. His 20 goals, 9 assists and best player in the Championship tag, has caught the attention of many top flight clubs, both in Europe and the Premier League!

Leeds have been quick to slap a £40m price tag on their star asset who has two years left on his contract. There has been talk of a cash plus player deal involving Reds reject Nat Phillips, after showing good form for Cardiff Day since his January loan move.

"πολλὰ δ᾽ ἀέλπτως κραίνουσι θεοί" (loosely translated, "the gods bring many matters to surprising ends").

The phrase "Man proposes, but God disposes" is a translation of the Latin phrase "Homo proponit, sed Deus disponit"

No other choice but to go for broke and to blow Southampton out the water who might well take an option to rest players IMHO. There will be a decent break before we play in the Play Offs if indeed that is where we end up (sadly I think it will be the play offs for us)

Just to reiterate what I said on the Southampton match thread:
We should start with what DF considers his strongest team but as soon as Ipswich get a couple of goals in front, which will probably be before half time, make changes so that some of the fringe players get a good run out before the play offs.
I'd actually be tempted to rest Rodon completely and play Cresswell. Rodon looked shot to bits after QPR. He needs a rest.

We should absolutely go in to the game assuming Huddersfield will win, it’s the championship on the final day, anything can happen no matter how unlikely it seems - last game for Huddersfield in the champ for a while they will want to at least attempt to give the fans a good account of themselves.

we need to start with our strongest in form players. That means resting Rondon and moving Amps into midfield (his best (position) and having Cooper ( his last game for LUFC, so he will be on it) and Cresswell who had a great season with Millwall last season.

But, Rodon & Ampadu are our most in-form players, the only two who have been consistently good all season.

Bearing in mind Coops has hardly played & Charlie hasn't had a sniff, would you consider those two as our strongest in-form players?

If you are talking about the most in-form players since the International break, we may as well pick from the crowd. They have not been fit to wear the shirt.

Rodon & Amps haven't been that bad, both endured far too much pressure due to poor performances from their teammates around them.

A goalie flapping like a bird behind them, two full-backs who can't stop crosses coming into our box, a redundant defensive midfield pair & our front four who couldn't hit a barn door at times during our run-in.

Ipswich will be two up in ten minutes.

We don't want to be sitting here on Monday fretting over injured or suspended players.

The only sensible approach is to assume Huddersfield win and go full out with our best team from the start.

Re-assess at half time and if Ipswich are 2 up or we are 2 up, rest players then :x

As if Farke is going to do that - imagine the fallout if Ipswich lost and we failed to win and it was perceived that he had put out a weakened team

Fkn dead right Matt

Last 5, when we just needed a few decent results to win automatic promotion: Won 1 Drew 1 Lost 3 = fkn bottle jobs the lot of them :x

Scored 5 Conceded 10

Gained 4 points out of 15 = relegation standard.

And we had a very easy run in, easier than our two competitors.

I agree we start with the intent to win - PJM is right we go with our best 11. Unfortunately his post unravelled when he started suggesting who the players were.

So if Ipswich are only 1-0 at half time do we throw the towel in ? Very few people believe or expect Ipswich to lose their last game. But the fact is, however remote and regardless of the circumstances - there are no guarantees in football.

Farke has to balance likelihood against the risk of key players picking up an injury in a game that may well be a dead rubber, but right now there is still a small chance that Lady Luck pays a visit.

Tough choices, he could be damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.

Personally we want to go into the playoffs (most likely fate)with a win to boost confidence.

Cry - 40m? Sounds like a fair price if we can get it.
Depends entirely on what league we're in.
Why the perpetual link to Nat Phillips....would rather we choose the players we buy rather than have one pushed on us.

I would want a sell on percentage in addition to the agreed fee.

I know, but we have 5 subs we can bring on if the situation warrants it.

Id rather we lost the battle but won the war.

Ipswich wont lose on Saturday.

Even if it takes them banging in an equaliser in the 98th minute
