Re: Ethan Ampadu
Some folk on social media thought Amps had a poor game.
I really don't know what they were watching

While Aga Do is a good fit for his name try Xanadu.
Hope it gets stuck in your head like it did to me.

Re: Ethan Ampadu
What a first run out as team captain His first time as any squad's captain and only his second and third professional goals (and an assist too)--all while playing out of his normal DM position.
At 6.97M£, pound for pound our best signing from the summer.
A well-deserved write-up from Phil Hay in The Athletic:

Re: Ethan Ampadu
Nice to know Ethan can effortlessly slot in to the CB position--and with a good long-range eye too

Re: Ethan Ampadu
Ball playing defenders are apparently all the rage these days.
I feel blooding the excellent reader of the game Ampadu at CH can be considered part of the 'bigger picture' of what DF is trying to achieve for us at Elland Rd.
Just another small piece in the huge jigsaw of work he's battling away to complete.
I for one would be quite comfortable with him playing there again.
So at CH we've got Rodon, LC, PS and now Ampadu, Ampadu who can play both LCH and RCH if needed this season.
Excellent work yet again by DF, one rung at a time.

Ethan Ampadu has played cb most of his career, he was blooded long before DF tried itKennyb41 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:05 am Ball playing defenders are apparently all the rage these days.

It was ok vs League 1 Peterborough but player himself is on record for saying he prefers the holding role.
As an emergency I'd agree is ok.
But not something I hope we repeat often as he's done so well in dm

Luke Ayling has won a few MOTM's here after playing CB but looked exposed at other times...

Re: Ethan Ampadu
Another solid display from Ethan, who now seems to be one of our two main centre-backs.
18 decent actions with 2 poor moments in his game.
Ampadu forming a great partnership with Rodon.

Our dual-purpose machine
5 defensive headers
3 interceptions4
3 decent passes
2 tackles
1 excellent pass
1 defensive clearance
1 block
1 ball recovery
Another comfortable display alongside his fellow Welshman.
Even teams who rely on set-pieces struggle to get the better of our two most consistent performers at the back.

Re: Ethan Ampadu
We now have two captains at the back
20 excellent moments of play
Once again, Amps was immense at the back as the Janners struggled to make inroads past our defence.
As with Rodon, Ethan made several blocks, clearances, interceptions, tackles at the back.
One goal conceded in eight games since Ampadu du du moved into our central defence.

Re: Ethan Ampadu
Ampadu had his work cut out with the Leicester press, also having the non-existent Firpo to his left & Summerville not tracking back as much as he usually does.
19 pieces of excellent play from our current captain, with a mix of clearances, tackles, blocks, excellent passes & a couple of good runs to drive us forward.
Lost his marker once & a missed header amongst his 4 pieces of poor play.

So reassuring, we have two of the best CBs in the championship.

Make that 3. Earlier this season, a neutral said Strujik was the best defender in the championship.

Re: Ethan Ampadu
I wasn't too convinced about putting Ampadu in that position although I knew he'd laked there beofre, it has worked brilliantly , we still miss Pascal, especially at set pieces.
It has opened up another position in midfield which has given game time to someone, probably Gruev to cement as his own, nice to have options for once.
