Re: Horse Racing News - Frankie Dettori
'I have to give up' - Frankie Dettori reveals bombshell retirement next "I've been facing the facts," said Dettori.
"As I started to get closer to turning 52, it kind of hit me. I started asking myself, how far do you want to go?
"Making the announcement is the first step – and I think it's only fair that the public knows what I'm planning because I want what comes next to be a celebration. I really want to give it one last go.
"It will be emotional, and I know there are going to be lots of tears, but it's also going to be great because I want it to be great. What did Michael Jordan say? 'Let's enjoy the last dance.' This is now my last dance."
Dettori expects to ride in Britain for the last time at Ascot on Qipco British Champions Day. Before then he can look forward to Classic mounts aboard Group 1-winning juveniles Chaldean and Commissioning, while Inspiral, Emily Upjohn and Kinross will be among the older stars set to be aided by a global celebrity who first truly became a household name when completing his now legendary Magnificent Seven at Ascot in 1996. Four years later he made headlines for altogether different reasons when surviving a fatal plane crash.

Re: Horse Racing News - Frankie Dettori
Davy Russell, one of the greatest jump jockeys of all time, has retired from riding at the age of 43, with Gordon Elliott hailing him a legend of the sport.
The announcement arrived at Thurles on Sunday after Russell won the featured Billy Harney Memorial Irish EBF Mares Novice Hurdle on the Elliott-trained Liberty Dance – the 1,579th and final winner of a stellar career that spanned more than 23 years. His first winner came aboard Right'N'Royal in a qualified riders' handicap hurdle at Gowran Park on May 20, 1999.
"The stars just seemed to align. I had it in my mind to retire a little while back. I said I would do it when I had my next winner, but then with the weather so much racing was called off."
When asked for his own personal highlight over the two decades, Russell replied: "I'll never forget my first winner and I'll never forget my last but it's hard to get away from Tiger Roll."

Re: Horse Racing News - Frankie Dettori/Davy Russell retire!
Is Frankie Elton John. Strange announcing your retirement a season before you do it. Anyway he’s a great ambassador for the sport. Good luck to him.
Love Davy Russell, a proper NH jockey. Rode Cheltenham better than most.

Davy is still riding as well as ever, three winners & a 2nd in his last five rides.
Ridden 40 winners & 90 placed in the first four at Cheltenham.
I've had some decent priced winners with Davy on board.

At last the freeze is over for now with the return of proper racing on the turf at Lingfield & Punchestown.

I knew about Frankie, didn't know Davy had called time too. My favourite jumps jockey, and a go to man if you wanted to pull your day back with the bookies! Two racing legends that the sport will miss.
