Re: RATE THE REF - Chris Kavanagh (Match 23: Newcastle Utd (H) - Saturday 22/01/22)
6/10
He was a bit card happy and I have to agree with others about the time wasting by Newcastle. My issue with this is they did it to break momentum and to give themselves key rest minutes as they were absolutely shattered. If they were to play next week they would be dead in the water.
Others have made the point that time keeping should be taken from the ref. I think faaip said about just stopping the clock for injuries and substitutions and that would end some of the cheating - but not for getting recovery minutes and not for getting instructions from the bench.
Kavanagh did save us from the ignominy of a bigger defeat by not giving them what was a clear penalty in my opinion.

0 for me
Let the Geordies waste time from the first minute and ruin the match.
Even in the 60th minute, when the chief time waster Dubravka was arsing around for ages with a goal kick, instead of booking him this w**ker ref just pointed at his watch, spineless cnut.

It wasn't a pen, he was diving before any contact

.
Obviously the odds would have been significantly against him, but with the way our day was going, it probably would have hit the crossbar, deflected down and hit off his arse and trickled in over the line.
I felt that Koch took his leg first, but he hesitated for a split second before making a meal of the dive. That’s what worked against him.

TBH, he had been diving all game, so maybe the ref( I doubt this) had had enough, he couldn't card him, as it would have been a sending off....
Oh No Velo's saying the refs are bent again...but, I rest my case

Time wasting tactics allowed to ruin the game from the ref.

I notice we haven't had Jon Moss. Is that because he has a record shop in Leeds I wonder. Nor Martin Atkinson who lives in Wakefield.
Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett (Match 24: Aston Villa (A) - Wednesday 09/02/22)
I will give him 7/10, would have been a 9 but he lost control of the game in the last 18 mins ( 10 of normal time) when Villa were faking injuries, taking 45 secs for a goal kick and Watkins should have been sent off for assault at the same time that Messlier was elbowed

Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett (Match 24: Aston Villa (A) - Wednesday 09/02/22)
7/10
Better than the average ref by a distance. Let the game flow, played advantage and was accurate in his calls through most of the game. The negatives around time wasting are a League issue. Something has to be put in place around medics walking on all over the pitch and people just lying down willy nilly. Also felt he made an error in not giving a straight red for the elbow on Meslier.
Otherwise, a good performance.

Re: RATE THE REF - Jarred Gillett (Match 24: Aston Villa (A) - Wednesday 09/02/22)
8/10 he let the game flow as much as he could, not stopping the game every time players were near each other. For me he was pretty even handed throughout the game both sets of fans could moan about a number of free kicks that they didn’t get but I feel he helped make the game. It was a petty he lost control towards the end but how many refs bottle it when it comes to doing anything about time wasting.
A bumble bee under the laws of physics shouldnt be able to fly, but it does because no one has told it that it can't

I think the lack of free kicks given has more to do with the fact he couldn’t keep up with the pace of the game to see what was going on. Mo Farah would have struggled.
Only joking, I hardly noticed him, which is what you want from a ref.

7/10. Had a good game in general but I would concur with the consensus regarding time wasting.
I was impressed by the call for 8 minutes of injury time because I thought he’d tried to take proper account of all the mainly Villa inspired disruption and stoppages towards the end of the 90 minutes. Unfortunately he then proceeded to let himself down by allowing Villa to squander most of it by continuing their obvious play acting and blatant time wasting.

8.
Marsch OUT
Football has undergone a process of bielsification; pressing and possessing, passing rather than dribbling, intercepting high up the field rather than making last-ditch tackles, are in vogue.
Marcelo Bielsa. The light that will never go out.

For a change I was quite happy with Villa time-wasting at the end as we didn't look convincing defensively at any stage of the game, the last couple of minutes were panic-stations as we conceded possession cheaply, was crapping myself when Villa had the long throw at the death, Ayling tried to play the ball out when all he had to do was boot the ball into the stands.Johnboy1965 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 8:49 am As said previously let the game flow but lost control regarding the Villa time-wasting at the end.

Anyway 8/10 for the referee in what was a pulsating game,
