Re: RIP To Those Departed
Thanks BB, that's sad and RIP Steve Wright
Cheered me up on many an afternoon with his funny characters: The Football Hooligan, Arnie Schwarzenegger, Damien The Social Worker, etc.
Laugh and a half
I remember he wouldn't play The Smiths as he said they were depressing. Which I disagreed with at the time, but I'll forgive him that.
Good lad, and sad to see him go.

There are not many of the good ones left.
Scott Mills & Gary Davis are enough to put me off radio for life.

Radio 6 is quality. Often listen to Huey Morgan's shows.

Damn shame about Steve Wright, his afternoon shows on Radio 1 were always a laugh, Phil Cornwell doing Jagger and Bowie etc. Seems to have been a genuinely nice guy, too. RIP

Re: RIP To Those Departed
Steve was shat on by the BBC, dropping him from his popular daily afternoon show, for some younger inferior dude last year, he decided to stay with the organisation for his Sunday morning Love Songs show.
Steve didn't deserve such disloyalty, of course the BBC won't mention their disgraceful decision as they pay tributes to him.

Millions of tributes to Wrighty on Radio 2 today, currently on the Vernon Kay show.
Featuring many of sketches/characters he used to portray.
Songs such as 'Thank You For Being A Friend/Miss You on the playlist.

Got to disagree, Radio 6 Music used to be decent station but sadly it's fallen in to the BBC bullshit PC regulation dept, there was once a popular rock show then that was replaced by 'Tom Ravenscroft's is the dullest bloke on the planet show' who got the job via nepotism, Cerys Matthews plays absolute crap, the morning shows with Lauren Laverne and Mary Anne Hobbs is extremely hit and miss, mainly miss. Laverne is on 400k a year by the way.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 11:29 pm Radio 6 is quality. Often listen to Huey Morgan's shows.
I still have time for The Radcliffe and Maconie show, occasionally Mark Riley, Tom Robinson and Guy Garvey.
Steve Lamaq does a lot to help young bands but he only does one day a week now, Huw Stevens is usually on everything else.
I quite like Brix Smith when she occasionally does fills slots for Garvey but John Grant is a boring sod.
Can't stand Huey Morgan either lol.
Just my opinion, nowt personal.

I'm so upset to hear Steve Wright has passed away suddenly.
I loved his afternoon/Sunday shows.
The BBC bosses treated him despicably & must have caused him great stress.

Love Huey, stunningly good shows and music but I float through all genres happily. At the Saint Agnes/Bex concert recently, got The Hold Steady and Martha Tilson (folk,) Still Corners (dream pop) next up .. Just got tickets for Chelsea Wolf in November, might do Wednesday too around thenBradWhite wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2024 1:09 pm Got to disagree, Radio 6 Music used to be decent station but sadly it's fallen in to the BBC bullshit PC regulation dept, there was once a popular rock show then that was replaced by 'Tom Ravenscroft's is the dullest bloke on the planet show' who got the job via nepotism, Cerys Matthews plays absolute crap, the morning shows with Lauren Laverne and Mary Anne Hobbs is extremely hit and miss, mainly miss. The bridge over the M3 at Fleet Services is named for Scott Mills, in trip advisor a certain Sydney Harbout wrote "This must be one of the buisiest tourist attractions in the UK. I've been standing here for an hour and thousands of people have come past ..in both directions"
