Unlucky with Man Utd , managers with much higher profiles haven't done a lot differently to him ..........always was going to be impossible after Ferguson , same as Leeds after Revie or again Manure after Busby . It's one of those things you don't want to be the next one.......but I guess that chance comes once in a lifetime , you don't say no . He won Hammers a trophy, even if fans say it's a Mickey mouse one ........it's one more than most other PL sides .

Yeah was on a hiding to nothing replacing Ferguson.
Does show how highly rated he was for Ferguson to personally recommend him though?
He's a very decent manager.
His spell at Everton was really impressive all those years ago.

No club deserves to be relegated as much as Everton ....

Absolutely convinced they will come out smelling of roses and end up like Villa with really ambitious and generous owners . . . .The Subhuman wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 4:43 pm No club deserves to be relegated as much as Everton ....

Re: Premier League Thread
It makes the disparity between the divisions even wider when you consider that 2 of the 3 above the relegation zone had point deductions. And still none of the bottom 3 could stay up.
Re: Premier League Thread
Citeh return to the top of the Premier League Table for the first time in months after seven consecutive wins.
Re: Premier League Thread
Leeds would struggle if we overcome our play-offs hoodoo, one season too early for promotion to the Premier League imo!andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 6:30 pm It makes the disparity between the divisions even wider when you consider that 2 of the 3 above the relegation zone had point deductions. Re: Premier League Thread
I'd still rather go up this year. Too many concerns with the squad and finances to be confident we'll do better next season. Maybe the board have it under control. But lots of concerns for those of us outside the know.
Re: Premier League Thread
Isn't really an ideal time to go up though, surely you want to go up as soon as possible so you keep your best players (Summerville, Gray etc).
Every year down you get filled up with more of the dross every team at this level has, if people think the squad this year is bad they will hate next year if we aren't promoted, this is as good as it will get.
The idea you can miss out in season 1 then go up next season as its the right time is presumably a coping mechanism?
We owe 10s of millions of pounds . . . . But aside from that the odds of going up 2nd season are massively reduced.
Since 1995/96 a grand total of 8 teams have gone up 2nd season, 4 in the 3rd.
You get one chance where your chances are double figures percentage wise, this is it.
Aside from that the gap between the Premier League and Championship widens every year imo, so we'd be even less ready in 12 months.

A prolific No.9
Box to box midfielder who scores goals
Free-kick specialist
Players who score goals from set-pieces.
In other words, we build a more balanced team than we have now.

Lovely in an ideal world but history tells you your 2nd season relegated almost never works out how you hope.1964white wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 8:51 pm Sell Summerville & Gnonto and sign....
Sign very little because most of the fees for those two would go on the £70mil we owe by June.
A prolific No.9
Piroe and Bamford for that matter both average a goal every other game at this level.
Box to box midfielder who scores goals
Again hate to repeat myself but that requires (assuming DF is still here) him to change his tactics.
Free-kick specialist
Be nice but not easy to find.
Players who score goals from set-pieces.
See midfielder post, they both have a common denominator.
In other words, we build a more balanced team than we have now.
8 teams out of 81 in 20+ years.
