Obviously we want them to stay but it seems unlikely at this point.

Maybe had we pushed on last summer, shown ambition, tried to improve then we could have convinced them but after the negligence shown by the club last summer and the season that followed ambitious players dont stick around for that.

Once Kinnear and co set out there stall with the 2 seasons of transfers in 1 speech and once it became clear that stagnation was the order of the day then it felt inevitable to me bar some sort of miracle improvement season that we would lose our best players.

Raphinha for me more than Kalvin has the potential to be world class and to go on to be a genuinely world class player in the future and if that was to happen i would atleast feel some pride that we played a part in that journey for him.

That being said as a fan the frustration would always be there that we as a club let our opportunity slip by and failed to even attempt to show the ambition big players want to see.

If Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips are to leave as seems likely then 2 things must happen.

First, we need to get absolute top money for them both.

The valuations for Raphinha in particular are nowhere near high enough for a man who is now considered a starter for Brazil going into a World Cup season on the back of 2 standout Premier League seasons where he has been top 10 for all manner of stats including chances created in both seasons and has managed a goal or an assist every other game in the League.

Figures of £45-55million have been mentioned at a time where players have gone for £85mil based on 1 season in Portugal or nearly £80mil for a defensive midfielder.

We need to get a minimum of £70mil for Raphinha for me, when you consider his performances for us and how important he has been and throw in he is 1 good World Cup away from probably touching £100mil in value.

And that brings me on to Kalvin Phillips who does have the downside of having a bit of a reputation for being injury prone and question marks over his ability to really thrive in any other style and system other than BielsaBall.

But he is an England international who has been part of a Euro final squad.

He has proven himself to be a quality Premier League player when fit.

And he is English which goes for a premium because of the domestic player quota clubs need to fill.

So when you take that into account and consider that the club who want to buy him paid £34mil for a 28 year old who had only played in Ukraine and was barely on nodding terms internationally in 2013.

Then it becomes clear that based on the more proven aspect Kalvin has, based on being younger, based on being English and based on the fact transfer fees have got bigger in the last 9 years then its clear we should imo be demanding atleast £60mil for him imo.

Secondly and finally this cant be allowed to become a saga.

We need to bring matters to a close soon one way or another.

If they are to go then we need to tell interested parties that deals need to be done by a certain date.

July 1st seems fair.

We cant allow this to drag on and impact us getting our squad built.

So our club needs to for a change be bullish and forthright.

Set a price and a deadline and stick to it.

If KP and Raph are to go we need to get top dollar and it needs to be done soon.

While we may see Leeds as a big club the reality is that compared to so many across the country and Europe we are not and Raph saw us as a great stepping stone club to further his upward trajectory.
To be fair to him he kept his side of the bargain and is in my opinion best winger we have ever had at the club.
So we need to capitalise on his value and sell him well.

KP also deserves a move. While he is ALAW at heart the fact is that he can earn more, win more and play on a bigger stage if he moves elsewhere. Regarding his National Career he isn't at that point of being unpickable. Southgate likes him but in reality Southgate may not be around for much longer and KP knows that he will need to have the status of elite club on his CV to ensure a continued Nat career when a new guy takes the reins.

Our issue is whether Orta has the wherewithall to sell them both well. Radz hasnt the experience in that area either.
But surely those two should be bringing in £120M minimum.

As far as I'm concerned, we are firmly in the driving seat with both players, we don't need to sell either at a low price, we can, and should, be holding out, KP isn't that good, yes he will flourish elsewhere because he will have better players around him and he wont be as needed as at ER, Raph will go also, but hopefully not to silly barcelona now after their pathetic illegal attempts to prise him away for 7 pence.
A good world cup and both their stocks will soar, but, I reckon KP will be long gone by then, maybe both.
Whatever happens, it needs to happen quickly, and we need to be demanding top dollar for both.

My concern is that Orta hasn't sold any player yet for a decent price; I just don't trust him.

Yeah it would but I don’t think we are in the position of strength some think we are, teams know we are on a recruitment drive and that we cant bring more players in without selling, if they just wait us out I think we will blink first - hopefully wrong but we shall see.

If we keep them and bring in no other transfers, we have five center backs, Kristensen and Firpo, Kalvin and Roca in the defensive midfield, Raphinha and Harrison on the wings, Aaronson, and some combination of Bamford, Rodrigo, Gelhardt and James.

That lineup won't be challenging for European football, but ought to be more than enough to see us clear of another relegation battle.

Some holes, to be sure (I'm lookin' at you, Firpo), but still pretty solid.
