Crass 'Christ The Album' Durly
African Head Charge 'Environmental Studies' Faaip
Discharge 'Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing' Sara
Mission of Burma 'VS' SG
Siouxsie & The Banshees 'A Kiss In The Dreamhouse' 64

Musically, the Crass one is probably the weakest out of these 5 but it's the one that had the most profound effect on me when I was growing up, so it takes the 5 points. I also listened obsessively to that Discharge debut album (plus the early singles) at the time. n absolutely seminal piece of work and hugely influential.
Some great choices this year, even second time around.

The Comsat Angels 'My Minds Eye'

I always had a bit of a soft spot for the CA's after picking up a copy of the single Red Planet (had never heard it before), as a bit of a punt, in the bargain bucket in Sanctuary Records in Lincoln in the late 70's - and finding it was a cracking single.

Would love to nominate Chainsaw Kittens excellent Flipped out in Singapore but really can't justify Faith No More 'Angel Dust' missing out a second time... it's a classic

I'll go with Smashing Pumpkins - 'Gish'

Funny story. I came across this record randomly. I was browsing in my favorite record store. They had an excellent staff and selection which was divided by large plastic tabs labelled with band names in those old embossed font stickers. I was going through the 'S' section and hit 'Smashing Pumpkins' with one lonely disc in it and an unusual addendum stuck beneath the band's name on the tab: I had a little mad money on me so I figured what the hell. I was blown away by the record and had a great time introducing the band to my pals before Siamese Dream came out and the band blew up. I'll never forget the label that led me to the discovery though. It was the only time any tab in the store went beyond providing the band name in all the years I shopped there. It looked something like this:

Thanks, James.

Love Siouxsie, it would appear the majority do.

Not their best album.
