Free transfer for me.....my debut this evening!

It is nerve-wracking, James as you know many of the spectators are decent bowlers.

Great if you are in good form, not so good if you're having a bad day.

I often play to an audience indoors, it's my preferred game as opposed to the outdoor game.

I'm kicking myself if I don't get at least one of my three woods on the jack or within a couple of feet. If I'm playing in a Singles/Pairs match which involves four woods, I'm looking at least a 50% strike-rate in that vicinity.

That's the standard expected, you can't afford to be loose against the top teams.

I have a first round cup singles match at 10.30am & then an evening pairs match (unbeaten so far) on Monday.

Do you lob them up in the air, or hurl them shot putt style??

No my dear Hector, I roll them on the ground.

Did a lot of that when I was courting many moons ago

When is your first practice, OB?
It’ll be sometime in April I’m busy until then so I’ll get plenty of YouTube practice.
That said, I’ve just read your post to WR, it sounds bloody complicated! I thought it was just a matter of chucking a ball at some others, a bit like grown up marbles

I'm always nervous before a match, even though I'm a complete amateur.

When we get back to England I'm seriously thinking about joining a bowls club.

I don't know whether the Barnsley area has a club, though I'll find out.

After a cracking 21-16 victory over Mrs B in my cup single match, I go again this evening in the Pairs League at 6.30pm.

Mrs B who has been playing bowls longer than my 18 years stint is a tough cookie to crack, at 15-6 up I was looking comfortable. I kept piling my woods on the jack, three times I was laying 3 up (twice) & 4 up only for my opponent to fire my woods off the jack with precise accuracy. At 16-14, I would normally be slightly anxious with my slender lead, however I was playing so well I felt it was only a matter of time before I reach the winning line.

Women bowlers can be so ruthless!

Right, hopefully we can retain our unbeaten run which goes back over two seasons with my partner HOOF who used to be involved in our Horse Racing thread a few years ago.

My debut for Hutton Cranswick Bowls Club in the Friday Independent League this evening

Cranswick won this league last season.

I hope I don't let them down.

Thank you, James.

I've been playing 20 years, but I have to admit it doesn't stop me feeling nervous.

Cranswick won two top leagues last season, I have many friends down there, so hopefully my apprehension will disappear once I step on the green.

Four of the them, used to play at Middleton many years ago before leaving for pastures new, so it's good playing alongside again as opposed to against them

Billy who lives in our village introduced me to bowls two decades ago, we had a friendly roll up (bowls term nothing else Hector) & it went well so fingers-crossed I'll be ok this evening.

I know you mean well, so thank you

I find in life if I feel nervous in a certain situation it is best to think "What would Gianni Alioski do" . . .

That usually sorts everything out :)

Think like that and you will he fine

There's another way to look at it 64, and i'll guarantee this'll be in your head tonight as you kneel down for that vital match saving bowl.

It's the Citeh game tomorrow, 89th minute and somehow it's 0-0.
I want to think of me writing this - and put a picture in your head of Dan James being put through on goal 1 on 1 with only the keeper to beat, put finger peg on that bowl and it's gonna do one of those last second rollovers onto the Jack.

What could go wrong pal ? Best of luck.
