It's how we're set up to play multi day cricket.. It's the least of cricket now in this country. Hants and I expect a number of counties lost good players form their 4 day team to play 100 ball smack it and run or IPL. I think Australia still has a competitive long form game, we don't... last seasons CC was a farce.

We're losing the ability to play longer than half a day at a time...

No practice games doesn't help at all, team selection doesn't help.. but the key problem is the destroying of the county game

Burns/Malan/Hameed wouldn't get in any historical England 11, Burns' technique means he will always struggle for consistency, especially against any quality. Malan is well past his best

Root and Stokes are test quality. But Stokes is carrying a knee injury and batting too high. Pope and Buttler are solid county players but lack the quality to be test players...

The bowling is decent though, Woaks and Wood are tight bowler relying on errors in the face of line and length. Robinson is an attack bowler, we need another if Jimmy A is done, Leech needs a spinning wicket and that's not normally green tops

I have to say that the BT sport coverage is atrocious. Something about them getting it from Fox? But BT didn't bother to send out any British commentators, so we are stuck with gobby ex Aussie players who just want to gloat but cannot seem to string two constructive/knowledgeable words together.
Forget the dismal cricket, I might just have to switch off because of all the commentary drivel....Shane Warne and Mark Waugh you just don't cut it.....

A vastly improved performance from England's batsmen, just a pity it's the second innings

England close on 220 for 2, much better performance and well done to Root and Malan for their batting

Yep restoring some pride against the Aussies and excellent from Root and Malan as far. The morning session will be crucial tomorrow, If we can see it through and manage to post a relatively decent total, it could well get interesting.

Once again our finest batsman has had to enter the crease far too early due to the inability of our openers.

Thank god for Joe Root

Probably too little too late. But much better than the first innings.
We need someone to do a Boycott. Stay out there all day and tire their bowlers out. Then let Stokes and Buttler throw the bat.

Only two of them, the openers are not Test batsmen.

Never really replaced Geoffrey, although we've had some excellent opening batsmen a few decades ago.

Hameed and Burns shouldn't be anywhere near the test side. It does show the current state of the County Championship at the moment. We are not really producing test quality players that have the right sort of application. There's way too much emphasis on some of the limited overs mickey mouse comps, the ECB are accountable for this.
