Charlie Cresswell
Chrlie Cresswell was the freshest face to be training with the core group on the first day of training. Maybe Bielsa's contingency? Strujik, Casey, then Cresswell.
Anyone got a report on him?

Focus on Leeds did a piece on him earlier in the year...
Charlie fits the mould of a modern day centre back who is good on the ball and looks to play out from the back, something that fits the first teams style and the style of the club as a whole. In order to do this you need to be composed on the ball and have a good passing range, two things that Cresswell is very good at.
Being good on the ball and having a good passing range is all well and good but can he defend? Yes. Being the son of Richard, who was a striker, I’m sure they’ve spent hours upon hours talking and playing football together. His reading of the game for me is one of the most impressive attributes and the ability to sniff out danger.
Despite only being 17, those close to him highlight that he’s got a brilliant attitude and is completely focused on improving and becoming a better player. Being 17 means that he plays for both the under 23’s and under 28’s, where he captains the side when he plays. His leadership qualities in these games are particularly encouraging to see for such a young player.
A very well rounded defender who is good on the ball, strong in the tackle and has the ability to pass under pressure, there isn’t much to his game that you can criticise. He is however still inexperienced and with this comes inconsistent performances. Despite being level headed, he can sometimes be overeager to impress with the ball and without. Mistimed tackles, losing balls in important areas and losing the ball high up to name a few but this is something you come to expect from a young player. These aren’t areas for concern though, with more experience and guidance he’ll learn when to pass, when to come out with the ball and when to get tight to the opposition.

I thought he was outstanding tonight, well played young man, get shut of cooper now, job done.

Re: Charlie Cresswell
What foot does he kick with? Just wondering if he and Struijk are the Bielsa Left/Right CB partnership of the future?

Re: Charlie Cresswell
He's right-footed but capable with his left. When he partnered Casey in the 23's last year he always played on the left. That's one thing about him. His foot skills are excellent.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 11:13 pm What foot does he kick with (no NI implications attached ) Just wondering if he and Struijk are the Bielsa Left/Right CB partnership of the future?

With the way our injuries and suspensions are going, Cooper will play every game this yearmentalcase wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 10:37 pm I thought he was outstanding tonight, well played young man, get shut of cooper now, job done.
Re: Charlie Cresswell
Cresswell was indeed excellent and made only one minor mistake all game from what I saw. did not once look out of his depth and has a great future as a defender for us.

Re: Charlie Cresswell
That's providing no-one else saw his potential last neet and snatches him away with a promise of first team football, same with sommerville and geldhart.
Why do we need those 3 when we have the likes of cooper & roberts ?

Re: Charlie Cresswell
Had a good game, got beat a few times in the air by that Rodrigo guy Fulham had though as well, led to a few chances in the box
Re: Charlie Cresswell
Let's remember though for a minute that this was against Fulham though...and that they still had a lot of chances to score against us...
But still, very promising debut

Re: Charlie Cresswell
He's a big unit the lad, perfect build for a solid CB. Always wanted the ball, carried it forward when he saw the space. I thought he had a good game overall. He needs a consistent run of games now to build more confidence. If not here then out on loan. He put himself in the shop window a bit last night for that.
Re: Charlie Cresswell
Thought Charlie did really well last night especially when you take into consideration he was actually our only CB on the pitch. He’s big, strong, fast, two footed and it appears he has a good football brain - in fact a perfect Bielsa player.
But let’s not get carried away it’s good we can bring him into the squad if needed (like last night) but he won’t be replacing our current first team CBs anytime soon, I’d like to see him now be one of the first names on Cup team sheets and allowed to play different partnerships to see how he copes.

Re: Charlie Cresswell
The days of Ayling and KP at CB should be over now. Time to give Charlie a chance, he is just as good as Struijk.

Re: Charlie Cresswell
If these boys prove themselves, which Cresswell did last night, we should be using them in the first team when required. Not shuffling other players around to fill gaps.
