Championship and premier league are miles apart in terms of erm .....everything, money, crowds, skill sets, managers etc etc
Yea I'm very grateful to whomever got us up, but, that wont make them premier league players, running will only get you so far, I dont give a shite about silly MOTM rankings, costa is gone because he just wont cut it, casilla was hopeless at best, he had a strong defence in front of him, didn't you ever see him running out and missing the ball every other week ?
Roberts has had long enough to prove himself and failed miserably, again, only imo.
Too many fans hanging on to t' past thinking they're fantastic, we got promoted, give em all keys to the city, let them stay forever blah blah blah.
Resting on our laurels will ultimately cost us, it cost Wilko, why do the top teams keep recruiting I wonder, why have man city the current PL champions bought again, why have Chelsea the current champions league holders bought again ?? Did they think, oh, hang on a minute, we cannot simply get rid of these players, they have won us the league / cup last year, the fans will go apeshit, they're all romantically intertwined with the fans !! Did they bollocks like, they know they have to keep building for future successes.

Costa played his part in getting us promoted, so in that respect yes he was worth it at the time, but lets not carried away by overinflating his role.
The real hero of that campaign though was Hernandez, without whom we would still be playing Championship football.

Yes, take Pablo/White out of that team & promotion would have been a real struggle.Johnboy1965 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 3:33 pm Costa played his part in getting us promoted, so in that respect yes he was worth it at the time, but lets not carried away by overinflating his role.

Everything will depend on how Raph does in at 10 for me. James is not a 10 imo, in the bits i have seen of him he's a run in behind player with his roadrunner speed (beep beep) will he surprise me and have a brain like Pablo? Lets hope Raph has, else we don't progress much with the addition of James has just another winger. If i was being cynical (stop it) there could be a element of truth in the priming him to take over from Raph. I will start the bidding now at £50m
James is a good addition with a lot to prove. He gives us that extra dimension to our play with his speed.

Couldn't agree more Mental. Atm Leeds have to be careful financially transforming a championship side into a side capable of challenging for honours. Yes atm we have a team who can compete at this level but in terms of winning silverware or challenging for Europe we are a few quality players short which will take careful planning and a couple of years to achieve. Think it was CJ or SG who said gradually the lesser championship players will be sold or become benchers as new better talent arrives which is absolutely correct and is the way forward in order for the 'new' Leeds United to evolve. There's only so much time players will be allowed to prove themselves and that time is running out as Costa and Poveda have just realised. No room for sentiments at this level.mentalcase wrote:Championship and premier league are miles apart in terms of erm .....everything, money, crowds, skill sets, managers etc etc

RE: Costa. Will be eternally grateful for his part in the promotion winning team. Also, as I read elsewhere we forget that he got something like 3 goals in 14 premier league appearances, was integral to the goals away in that 10-man win against City, and always was available as a sub on the bench (not a sicknote). Wish him all the best and hope he is rejuvenated by the loan to La Liga.
As for our Harrison, James, Raphinha cunundrum. It is true that these three players will scare the bejesus out of defences when running at them, meaning that we may press back opposition teams a bit more as they'll be scared to turn the ball over. However, that could have the opposite effect in meaning we have to play against more low blocks. At that point we don't have that creative 10 we need to unpick the lock, something we habitually struggle with when playing against teams that park the bus.

Lots of talk regarding Raphinia taking the 10 position. Personally I would be surprised. It is fine taking on players out on the wings. Lose the ball and the likelihood of a quick counter is often quickly negated. Lose it in the middle of the park and it is a different story. I am not sure Raphinia is disciplined enough to play that role. No doubt I will be proved wrong.

If James is the 'final piece of the jigsaw' then it's a real puzzle. Raphinha at no.10? Bielsa's trying to fit square pegs into round holes again?

James is the ready replacement for when they cash in on Raphinha, maybe a deal with Manure has already been stuck.

I believe Raphinha has the quality to play on the wings or in the No.10 position, it's up to those around Klich & Phillips to protect him. Raphinha does work hard so will always track back when losing possession.DDB220 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 9:36 pm Lots of talk regarding Raphinia taking the 10 position. It's either Raphinha or James playing the middle of the park, Pablo often played there!
