Re: Sports Newsflash - County Cricket Today (the proper stuff)
Phew!
Yorkshire left it late to bowl out the last few wickets to win by 200 runs

Well played Hants and Yorks ... We're in the group of death apparently

Yes Hants... Middlesex were supposed to be up there, Surrey always dangerous, Somerset are due. Gloucester playing very well and really only Leicester rebuilding. Kevan James said on commentary he doesn't like this new format as we're throwing away 20 years of developing a strong top division which benefits our test team...now we're basically back to the single division we had where the level of competition is inconsistent

As I understand it if you are in the top two by the end of the mini league matches you go into the top division of six counties and it’s only from there that a county can win the county championship and the Bob Willis trophy, the top two play off at Lords for that trophy.
If you don’t make the top two in the mini league then you go into the 2nd or 3rd divisions of 6 teams in each where you are playing for position in those divisions but in reality there is nothing to play for as far as I can see as there is no promotion or relegation.
So if you don’t make the top two in the mini league then your season is effectively finished.
Is my understanding correct? If so then I’m not a fan of this new format.

Re: Sports Newsflash - County Cricket Today (the proper stuff)
The administrators have a huge dilemma as to how to move forward with FC cricket, because they cannot hope to compete with T20 and need to merely accommodate.
At some point I think it is inevitable that red ball and white ball cricket will essentially be two different sports, and players will not realistically be able to play both, just like rugby players don’t play league and union at the same time.
Look at someone like Jonny Bairstow. To make himself impossible to ignore to the England set up for ODI and T20 cricket, he has sacrificed his red ball career.
In terms of career achievement he’ll no doubt consider it worthwhile, and rightly... then there is the financial aspect to boot.

Hants 168-1 at tea, slow but the right tactic. Holland on 90.

There's the Holland century, well deserved though he was dropped on 77 by WI captain Braithwaite... absolute sitter

Alsop with his second century of the season ...2 for Holland as well plus one each for Vince, Northeast and Dawson.. So 7 centuries in 5 innings so far from 5 different batsmen..
