As I say caught the final 25 min on the radio on the way home, think it was Matthew Upson co-commentating and he said we were the better team for large periods but the rub of the green and the gung ho approach caught us out in the end. He also praised our watchabilty and at one point said these incessant waves of attack were a joy to behold

Remember all those clean sheets in the championship, a different kettle of fish now. Leaking so many goals is a recipe for disaster at this level

It wasnt a 4-1 game thats for sure, well it was but watching it , it felt far from it. Even had visiting fan come in and say the same. The problem as I see it is the defence especially at the wing backs...dam all these new fangled terms.. full backs... can you imagine if we had a Paul Reaney and Terry cooper as our full backs now, they were years ahead of their time in going forward but still identified as full backs and knew how to tackle and suppress wingers....and thats whats is letting us down imo... the true full back is becoming a thing of the past.

Not really it was more too many players committed forward. I've always said CB partnerships take time, we've used three so far this season the worst of which looks like Coop/Koch though that is the most used ...

If you are responding to me mate,...can you elaberate a bit, as I think we are talking about two different things....You are talking cm I am talking full backs old school and the fact that the true art of the full back is suppressing wingers and tackling... that is the area imo we are being slaughtered in.

Tricky one this as no one had a good game so as Gessa says more to do with effort than anything else.

We did have some really bad luck (Bamford’s “goal” and their unbelievable defected goal) and some dodgy decisions against us as well and I’m not referring to Bamford’s 1st “goal” that was just very unlucky. But his possible penalty/free kick claim at the end of the game, which was referred to VAR and wasn’t even considered to be a foul! He was bundled over by the defender who got nowhere near touching the ball, how wasn’t that a free kick/penalty? As it happens it would have made no difference to the result but highlights what we are continually up against.

Anyway:-
Bamford - goal and nonstop running and harrying
Raphinha - only half a game but showed some potential
Klich - great engine
Alioski - ineffective but never stopped trying
Ayling - not one of his better games by any means but like Alioski never stopped trying

I read after the game VAR said it was a foul but outside the box, they could only give it if it was inside and a penalty.

This what I don’t understand about VAR, why weren’t we given a free kick on the edge of the box then? Was it because the game had moved on by the time the VAR decision was made? And what would happen if say the game had moved on and CP scored a goal at the other end before VAR had decided we should have had a penalty?
