Legal Aid stops in April.

Post by Emsley »

Was speaking to a legal secretary today and anyone who was applying for legal aid before the cut of point is in effect completely unable to have a well educated solicitor in their corner.
She also said that they had no Idea what would come of it.
Also said there is potential for making deals, maybe reducing hourly rates and charging a fixed chunk for their bread and butter work.

UUh, just wondering, if any of you are clued up because I'm not, what happens if a someone gets arrested and they cant afford a solicitor?
I've seen people represent them self's and they get blitzed.

I had a word with the solicitor at the office and he seemed to think it was more aimed at solicitors dealing with divorce, accident claims and non-contentious litigation putting a cap on what they make out of these cases. If you got p*ssed up on a night out for instance and got arrested you would still be able to have access to a 24 hour duty solicitor. Don't take this as gospel though as we don't deal with those areas of the law. :bear:
I'm going back to 505, I saw them at Sheffield and they were amazing.

Good legal aid is abused by the scrotums of this country. This coupled with benefits council housing and free healthcare being axed for immigrants scores a great victory for the hard working class folk of this land. Weldone conservatives take a bow David take a bow

That's not me Mate.
Might have a few scrapes now and then but haven't been in trouble since 2007.
Got arrested one night but was told to bog off with no charge.
Older and wiser.

Just thinking of the pitfalls to this, it really is quite bad.

I think - like any system - it is the abuse that spoils it for the genuine.
