Re: Illan Meslier
Maybe Arsenals recruitment team never got beyond his debut game against them when he had a worldie?

Maybe the Arse think their goalkeeping coaches are better than ours and it's worth seeing if they can get a tune out of him?
Beginning to think Paul Robinson was the best decent keeper we last had!

Re: Illan Meslier
Meslier still has an excellent premier league record... much much better than Trafford's

Good on the lad, treated like dirt by large sections of the Leeds fanbase and the manager to some extent - his mistakes were frustrating and costly but it shouldn’t have meant he was consigned to the bin for the rest of his time with us.

Surprised at the news of Meslier going to Arsenal, when he knows full well that first team opportunities are going to be restricted. The draw of playing for the current Prem Champions has its appeal but as 3rd choice keeper! Maybe its a stepping stone to better things but the decision is a strange one imo.

Meslier essentially went backwards at Leeds.MightyWhites wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2026 4:11 pm Maybe the Arse think their goalkeeping coaches are better than ours and it's worth seeing if they can get a tune out of him?
I am confident at least they have better goalkeeping coaches than our anonymous ones.

Re: Illan Meslier
Maybe he is simply happy picking up a big wage without the pressure of playing. Think I'd prefer that than to be playing in front of a nervy crowd having made several high profile errors. Might just be a case that a couple of seasons out of the spotlight, working on his weaknesses in training and then he starts again somewhere.Musicman1965 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2026 5:36 am Surprised at the news of Meslier going to Arsenal, when he knows full well that first team opportunities are going to be restricted. Re: Illan Meslier
That's a shame really if he just picks up the money and to be contented playing a minor role. As professionals you'd think playing would be a priority. His last appearance for Leeds was March 2025 so plenty of time to work on his game without the pressures of the crowd.weasel wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2026 8:09 am Maybe he is simply happy picking up a big wage without the pressure of playing. I reckon you are right about a stepping stone to better things, there is more value coming from Arsenal to another club and I am sure Arsenal will sell him on for a nice little earner.

I'm sure Arsenal will do well with him and yes, sell him on for a small fortune. It's the Leeds way....unfortunately.Musicman1965 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2026 12:01 pm That's a shame really if he just picks up the money and to be contented playing a minor role. Re: Illan Meslier
A move to Arsenal, to be a third string keeper, would indicate that Illan has given up on a top level playing career. Sad really.

Reported that he’s gone as second string, their current number 2 has asked to leave.PhoenixUnited wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2026 8:41 am A move to Arsenal, to be a third string keeper, would indicate that Illan has given up on a top level playing career. Sad really.

Re: Illan Meslier
Apparently in his first interview since his move to Arsenal went through, he said he is angry and will take that into next season as motivation.
Angry ?
Can only be angry with himself, he was given plenty of chances to prove how iratic he is, and he took them all

Motivation for what? Not falling off the bench?Johnthewhite wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2026 4:43 pm Apparently in his first interview since his move to Arsenal went through, he said he is angry and will take that into next season as motivation.

Re: Illan Meslier
Arsenal fans raving about Meslier today.
Apparently pulled off some brilliant saves and looked really good with the ball at his feet.
They gonna get early 2020s Meslier . . . .

Re: Illan Meslier
Anyone surprised at this? Shouldn't be. Just because he had a few howlers doesn't make him a bad goalkeeper. We all knew there was a good goalkeeper in him. Farke mismanaged this guy and destroyed his confidence! It would not have been difficult to train his weaknesses into strengths with the right training. I hope he does well...

Re: Illan Meslier
Good luck to him Cjay, I'm not the slightest bit sad that he's gone.
How many times was he beaten by the first shot target? And at is his near post? Plus all the flappy bird stuff when the crosses were raining in!
A regular presence in the two seasons before we were relegated from the EPL, during which we conceded 160+ goals!
EPL games played 107
EPL goals conceded 198
So, no sentimentality on my part as I save that for true Leeds legends like Charlton, Cooper, Reaney, McQueen, Madeley, Cherry, Harvey, Hunter, Yorath, Giles, Bremner, Lorimer, Jones, Jordan and Clarke. Those are names that virtually every English football fan could rhyme off in a few seconds, because they excelled at the top level.
