Shortly after being appointed president in 2017 that Infantino was instrumental in a major FIFA overhaul that ousted the two independent co-chairmen of the Ethics Committee, Cornel Borbély and Hans-Joachim Eckert. At the time, the committee was actively investigating… Infantino
So were FIFA's judicial bodies also reviewing every other red/yellow card throughout the tournament but this was the only one they deemed to have been an injustice and therefore overturned

I think you are speaking of the University of Michigan Stadium which has a capacity of about 111,000. Not Michigan State University, whose Spartan Stadium holds about 72,000. We lived across town from Michigan State University for most of our lives. My Wife Graduated from MSU.

The referee in question did not at first penalize the play, then VAR brought his attention to it. He watched it IN SLOW MOTION and then awarded a red card.
This is, as far as my reading of the protocols indicates, a clear violation of the IFAB VAR protocol which prohibits the use of VAR in slow motion to assess the existence of an infraction that is not called in real time and hence that invalidates the red.
Putting it succinctly, the referee is NOT permitted to make NO DECISION and then use VAR in SLOW MOTION to MAKE THE DECISION.
(my apologies for what I think is necessary capitalization).
If it were a valid red then it could not be challenged, but it was not. FIFA set themselves up for this controversy.
By the way, many Americans (including expats like me) think that the whole TDS and Orange Man Bad thing is ridiculous and that much of what he does (but not all) is entirely reasonable and for the good of the US and the West, and far better than Biden, Obama etc.
Just trying to add a little perspective as anti-Trump sentiment is stated here rather more often than it perhaps should be. Maybe it's best for a football forum to stick to football. You never know...

Up to now I've stuck to the NOT606 forum. Perhaps it's time to branch out...
Most people agree the red card was unfair.

As for how the ref handed it no idea if it was allowed? If not why haven't Fifa explained their reasoning along those lines?

What's happened is they've used a rule which nobody had heard of till they used the same rule to allow the highly marketable and therefore lucrative Cristiano Ronaldo to play all the games at the World Cup.

Who does that benefit? FIFA, Portugal and the US.

Who does this benefit? The US.

Whose publicly taken credit for it? Donald Trump.

Who did Infantino create a joke peace price for? Donald Trump.

That in itself Is against FIFA rules as they specifically say government should never get involved in FIFA decisions to the point any attempt to do so can result in bans for that national team and Federation.

Had FIFA explained their ruling for the reasons you say I don't think people would be so bothered.

Unfortunately the way it's been handled stinks of corruption to the point the very corrupt former President of FIFA has said the same :roflmao:

I've yet to follow either Michigan team, I've done Alabama (last season, because Ty Simpson), Ohio State, ASU, Texas A&M, Boston College and Penn state over the last few years

I have played in a few devy and college leagues which got me hooked on college football and games are easy to find on you tube here

Same for Quansah then, was deemed a good tackle by the ref. The Mexicans attacked a few English and the player got sent off using slow motion.

I wouldn't disagree. Don't forget that Balogun was actually sent off.
I somehow can't see the p***y UK politicians caring enough about England to stand up for their team and complain about the process that unfolded. Tuchel was pretty incensed about the sending off and Kane's penalty award; although there was no complaint about the Modric penalty in the Croatia game, so there is that.

You have to feel sorry for Balogun as well, his name will go down in football history for all the wrong reasons through no fault of his own.

That was a meh half of football, two teams seemingly more worried about losing than trying to win it.
Lamine Yamal has been disappointing so far in the comp.

Via VAR exactly like Quansah

Watching it back and if you think Quansah was definite red despite no intent then so was Bologun. He raked down the calf before treading on the ankle with weight... Irrespective of if it were deliberate.

Modric has complained the decision to give a penalty ...so there's that

You dont tjhnk anti Trump sentimemt is warranted here? Youre then at odds with the rest of the world except MAGA.
You also clearly dont know the rules. A RED CARD CANT BE OVERTURNED OR SUSPENDED - wrong or right decision.

Nick De Marco has had his say.

Basically the man on football law and such.

Safe to say he's not impressed
