Took the header well tbf.
Struggled for much of the game imo.
Got better 2nd half.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
DCL is a nuisance!!!
Defenders know they've been through a tough game when faced with keeping him at bay.
Calvert-Lewin will score double figures for us if he stays fit this season, not bad for a free.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
A 6ft5 league 2 striker would be a nuisance.
At this level you need more than thundering into defenders (he doesn't win that often either) to justify £100,000+ a week.
But I felt he was better 2nd half (whereas largely anonymous 1st half with Okafor the threat of the pair)
Was more of a threat, won a few more duels and took his goal well.
He's been gifted a few goals recently but felt this was similar to Wolves a good finish.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
If he scores double-figures this season, 100k a week will be money well spent. We didn't splash out a massive fee for DCL. Top strikers cost big money, whatever avenue a club takes.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 10:34 pm A 6ft5 league 2 striker would be a nuisance.

We don't go on the current unbeaten run without Calvert-Lewin.

Less ploddyball and now the new players look better.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
The thing is that people are too quick to judge. Every striker can go through spells where they look sh*t and spells where everything they touch goes in. Judge too quickly and you don't get the true picture. Same with Bamford he could go 10 games without a goal, miss sitters galore and then get 8 goals in 7 games. Same with managers and teams, can have a few matches where every decision backfires, team looks awful, devoid of confidence and then suddenly they look a different team. Guess at the end of the season we can judge on whether DCL, Farke and Leeds have had decent seasons.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
He did but if he keeps popping the goals in then job done. A few weeks ago people were saying he was playing well but not scoring. Funny ol' game as one of the best strikers in the world used to say.

He can be crap as he likes if he keeps scoring.
Personally judge strikers on goals or assists and he's coming up with some now.
Don't care about thundering into defenders or running about as much.
You can do both or score and create goals imo, thundering about and scoring naff all not for me.

He is having what i described earlier on in the season, once every couple of years historically he has a few months where everything turns to gold
Literally everything
But it cant just be for several games and then he goes back to the old D C L
This needs to be consistency, of course he wont score EVERY GAME, i get that.. but please........ needs to keep this up, so proud of him

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Sometimes though that will have been because of DCL being a nuisance that he draws the centrebacks towards him and it then creates a bit more space for Okafor. Especially these days teams aren't used to playing against 2 strikers so they can usually gang up on the lone striker.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 10:34 pm A 6ft5 league 2 striker would be a nuisance.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
A lot depends on the team and players around them. If the striker is doing the thundering around stuff but it is creatin spaces and opportuinites for other players and as such the team is scoring plenty then it works (ala Bamford in Bielsa's promotion team). If he does that and no one scores then it doesn't work.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 11:30 pm He can be crap as he likes if he keeps scoring.

I doubt it is literally, otherwise we have a King Midas situation. If he has a purple patch or two then that possibly keeps us up.pandagirl wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 11:37 pm He is having what i described earlier on in the season, once every couple of years historically he has a few months where everything turns to gold

It doesn't surprise me tbf.
DCL isn't the quickest or the strongest or the best at holding the ball up.
He works hard but needs players up supporting him.
He's done better recently imo.
I'd still like to see him and JP.

Our goal was all about Gnonto who rescues us for the second week running... But if we keep playing him DCL will thrive more than he has been.

I wouldn't mind a look at this either at some point. However, the fact that JP's strength is is not in his physicality, something Okafor has more of, means it's a bit like apples and orange. Doesn't mean it couldn't work, just hard to compare as it's two very different "two at the tops".

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Me too.
I think DCL would have been okay in the formation we played last year, even if Aaronsen was the 10, as he would have had someone near him to pick up on the scraps or take advantage of the space. Didn't work this year as our formation meant we had 3 DMs instead of 2 DMS and a 10.
When we have made changes in the last two macthes (after starting as 532) we have ended up closer to the formation of last season, 4-2-3-1, than the formation of earlier this season (4-3-2-1).
