Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Wednesday 10th December) Slot still fuming after Leeds comeback

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Wednesday 10th December, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

Slot still fuming after Leeds comeback

Arne Slot has admitted he is still nursing a sense of frustration after Liverpool’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road last weekend. The reigning champions seemed in full control, racing into a 2-0 lead, only to be pegged back in stunning fashion. Leeds completed their spirited comeback with virtually the last kick of the game, denying Liverpool all three points. Slot, speaking after the Reds’ 1-0 victory over AC Milan at the San Siro, made it clear that the events in Yorkshire remain fresh in his mind. “If you are talking about the 3-3 against Leeds, then yes we are relieved tonight,” he told Amazon Prime.

Reflecting on the match, Slot suggested that the score-line flattered Leeds. “We hardly conceded a chance against Leeds, so for them to score three goals was disappointing for the lads. They were devastated to concede that goal in the last minute,” he said. According to Slot, Leeds goals came from a penalty, a set-piece, and a 'single' well-worked move, far from the sustained pressure one might expect from a team scoring three times.

It is clear that while the midweek win over AC Milan provided some measure of relief, Slot’s lingering disappointment from Elland Road is a reminder of how costly late lapses can be, as Leeds know all too well. Four of their 29 goals conceded this season have come in 91st minute or later, including Foden's winner for Manchester City, and Gudmundsson's own goal at Fulham, which, had they held on for a few minutes later would have given Leeds and extra two points on the board.

Leeds pair walking suspension tightrope

Leeds United face a delicate balancing act over the coming weeks, with both Ethan Ampadu and Jayden Bogle walking the suspension tightrope. The pair have each picked up four yellow cards so far this season, meaning they are just one booking away from triggering a one-match ban under Premier League rules. Between match day one and match day 19, any player who accumulates five yellow cards faces an automatic suspension, making the next four fixtures crucial for the duo. If they can get past the high-profile clash against Liverpool on 1 January without adding another caution to their record, the threshold will then rise to 10 bookings before match day 32, significantly reducing the immediate risk.

Bogle has been an ever-present in the league campaign to date, racking up an impressive 1,319 minutes on the pitch, while the skipper has only missed two starts due to injury. Their consistency and influence have been key to Leeds’ recent resurgence in form, and losing either player during the busy festive schedule would be a major blow. With matches coming thick and fast, squad rotation will be tested, and suspensions could disrupt the rhythm that the team has worked so hard to find. For manager Daniel Farke, keeping both men on the right side of the law could prove as important as any tactical decision during this pivotal stretch of the season.

Bogle is easily replaceable for one game, Ampadu, not so much but Gruev isn't much of a downgrade

If Bogle or Ampadu get suspended then the only option for Farke will be to play someone else.
I love leeds united, may I never admit to it. :shhh:

Gruev is a massive downgrade imo!

He doesn't contribute half the defensive headers/clearances, passes, runs, tackles that Ampadu provides us.

Also, losing Ethan leadership skills is an important missing factor!

We under rate Gruev here, very good tackler, shepherds the ball well, positionally better than Amps and a hell of a left foot, maybe one of the best passers at the club. A downgrade yes, but a very decent back up. If we play 5 across the back then we don't need Amps CB qualities either. I tend to think Amps in front of a 5 man defence is belt and braces anyway.

Arne Slot has lost the plot,

If they both pick up a fifth yellow, I hope it’s not in the same game. Replacing both for one game is more disruptive.

"According to Slot, Leeds goals came from a penalty, a set-piece, and a 'single' well-worked move........"

The reality is, our penalty was a stonewall foul on Gnonto; it is not OK for his defenders to go flying in like that in the penalty box. We carved their defence open for a brilliant Stach goal and their piss poor defending on the far post gave Tanaka his goal.

Arne Slot seems to miss the point that 2 of the Leverpull goals were very fortunate and gifted to his team by Leeds United. He also was tactically outthought by Farke in the second half! Fair enough they carved us open for their 3rd goal but other than that his deluded and entitled team failed to get the ball into the net for all their huffing and puffing! Slot can fume all he likes but the simple fact is his team were not good enough on the day and have been stuttering for weeks. That is all down to him and no one else

Just the usual nonsense talk from a manager when his team gets beaten. They always look to down play the result by saying things like, decisions didnt go our way today or we were unlucky with a few efforts. If they win its, my team did very well today with and without the ball. We were solid and stuck to our game plan.

I watched the Scousers v Inter last night. What a soft penalty spotted by VAR. A very slight touch on the Scousers shirt and he goes down like an ox in an abattoir yet defenders can rugby tackle opposition players in the box and nothing ever happens. Slot should count his chickens as he could easily have lost again.

Even my lad who’s a Pool supporter said the pen was a joke, managers will say anything to keep their jobs but I don’t agree in the way Salah behaved. Even Allison said he was going to have a word in his ear, is Salah engineering a mega- bucks move to Saudi or trying to force Slot out ? Seems to have backfired on him though as most fans and pundits have come out in support of the manager.
Ah well, good to watch from afar.

I watched it as well. Apart from a couple of ludicrous refereeing decisions, the game was absolute bore fest. This was supposed to be two of the best teams in Europe.

Losing Bogle for a game is no big deal, Justin is a more than capable deputy.

I agree that Gruev is often underrated because he is one of those unobtrusive midfield cogs who does much of his best work shutting down attacks by using awareness and good positional sense . He also showed at times last season a range of passing which may prove useful in releasing the wingbacks and /or hitting the front two from deeper positions . He is a very useful squad player and seems content to bide his time and wait for his opportunities and if we have learnt anything over the last couple of months it is that we are going to need that type of player this season.

Rodon and Ampadu are the first two names on the team sheet for me.

They're up there, Gnonto is a must start for me, ditto Tanaka and Stach. Struijk is another.

The other 5 you can switch in and out but the above six, for me, are core players

It was a desperate penalty fake last night. A feather could have hit him harder.
