The people who present the EFL podcast made an excellent point. We effectively play 2-2-6 with Bogle and Firpo joining our wingers, 10 and 9 as a front 6. Despite this we very rarely looked vulnerable defensively.

It does on occasion in transition which is what has happened to DF's teams before.

Even Norwich when they were promoted.

Will be interesting what DF does, he does share a similar possession based philosophy as Russell Martin.

Control the ball you control the game.

But newly promoted teams can't really do that.
Those that do tend to get battered.

So will he go more defensive? More counter attacking? We rarely go long will we go long more?

If our full backs can't attack as much will be much more focus in the attacking 4, they are often very narrow basically Jesse Marsch style, will we have more width?

If we can't push the full backs on will DF allow more freedom to one of the midfield?

I do think we look far more comfortable in possession at the back than Southampton did, even in the championship. Southampton for me were poor in the championship doing it but got away with. A huge mistake though was buying Ramsdale as despite being a decent keeper is poor with the ball at his feet - a reason why I think Farke stuck with Messlier as long as he did was because Messlier was more adept at switching the ball than Darlow.

I think we will be more likely to see our central midfielders being very cautious. I would expect it to be along the lines of Ampadu and Gruev playing together especially in away matches. Or if Tanaka plays he will be the shield in front of the shield. I would expect us to still have attacking full backs.

For me the system under Marsch fell apart defensively because of how Tyler Adams was used. Adams was rarely central as a shield in front of the defence. Instead he was often chasing their wingers out wide and basically trying to be the full back. As such it left a gaping hole in the middle of the pitch and we repeatedly saw opposition midfielders advancing with no one to challenge them.

Ampadu and Gruev need to stay central. Drop into central defence if needed as a centreback pushes wide to meet a winger but do not vacate the centre of the pitch.

I was wondering when someone would make the connection. We've been playing a version of the system favored by Marsh, and many other Managers, for two years now. And you are the first to recognize it. Or at least say it out loud. ;-)

The system, or some version off it, is fine when you have the most talented team in whatever league you are playing in. It worked very well for Marsch at Salzburg. It's worked for Liverpool under Klopp. It worked for Pep at both City and Bayern Munich. And for many other dominant teams in their league.

If Farke doesn't change the system we will be right back in the Championship in short order. UNLESS we have a massive upgrade in talent. And that ain't gonna happen. At least not right away...

It's a slowed down version of Jesse Marsch, always has been.

Even down to the box formation.

Uncut version on the day, before, during & after the match.

And more footage of the players celebrations.

Farke letting his hair down.

No club would have players who know all the songs, only LUFC.

Having players in similar areas of the pitch or even playing the same formation is not the same under different managers. An easy example to use is how Bielsa made the players play. So another manager could line his players up in exactly the same formation but they aren't going to move like the Bielsa players, have the same almost telepathic understanding of where team mates are, know where they should be no matter where on the pitch the ball is etc.

End of the day football is simply 11 players on the pitch so there is always going to be similarites.

No need to change the subject. I was agreeing with you mate. And I highlighted the exact point of your post. That we are playing a rather narrow formation with overlapping fullbacks. Which will not work for us in the Premier League without a major upgrade in talent.

Well no s**t Sherlock...most teams don't man mark like Bielsa's teams do either. That wasn't the point.

The point is that Farke plays a fairly narrow formation. With the width being provided by the fullbacks. Which he likely won't be able to do in the Premier League. At least not without a major talent upgrade.

These uncut video's are brilliant, Cussie, you almost feel like you are in the ground when watching them.

This is one of the best, our players truly get what it means playing for Leeds United, they become like fans off the pitch.

100%, let’s hope they shake off their hangovers and win the damned thing now. Loved the Championship & hated it at the same time, hope we don’t ever see it again.

My feelings are we'll be in a better place than Leicester, Ipswich & Southampton were, come the start of the new season.

I think we are now, we'd beat those three teams with our current squad.

I think so too.

Leicester were a bit handicapped by their overspending previously and despite their lawyers getting the better out of the EFL they weren't really in a position to strengthen.

Southampton were a poor championship team. Don't forget they finished 4th. They had, as I demonstrated, been complete flat track bullies with a staggering difference in their points gained from lower half teams (the irony being them beating us 3 times). They then didn't really strengthen spending most of their money on a keeper that was unsuited to how they play.

Ipswich for me were the only ones who really went for it. However their policy of signing the cream of the championship still put them at a disadvantage. They were made up of players from league 1 and the championship. How they fare next season will be interesting as they will have a squad made up of players that know they weren't good enough in the prem, is there the same motivation to get back there or will they replicate Luton?

Hopefully they spend more time on recruiting the right players rather than changing the manager.

Filmed by a Stoke fan, this is brilliant. :clapp:

Just like the KOP, the South Stand was bouncing.

Stoke won the toss & turned us around at the kick-offs playing towards the Kop in the first-half.

These clubs don't realise we have a fanatical wall of noise behind both goals. :scar1

Fair play to them, they could have said “f**k this” and stopped filming after 2-0 😁

It wouldn't do their YouTube channels any good if they packed it in when suffering defeats.
