Think it's also fair to say that some almost take Farke's achievements with us for granted because of his successful promotion seasons at Norwich. For example if no one had heard of him, or he was an up and coming manager like Carrick or Coberan he'd be getting far more plaudits .The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 10:46 pm Not a level playing field, Bielsa's promotion season and this one.
Bielsa took on a team 16 years in the doldrums, Farke gets a team out of the prem
Bielsa's team not worth much, Farke gets the most expensive team by a distance
Bielsa total salary was league average. Farke has had the highest paid squad
I don't agree at all with this next one but the forum does by a mile
Farke has a much, much better board to work with

Yeah, he is/was.
I hated doing languages at school, but I actually started learning Spanish, as a man in his 50s, because of Bielsa

Re: Daniel Farke
With what happened with the 3 last year and now this, I just hope we can all appreciate how tough it will be for Farke to get a foothold on which to build in the Prem should we get there, I personally don't see the point of removing a manager that knows his players inside out, only to go and throw in a manager like Ruud Van at Leicester etc with his own ideas and trying to gel a team his way with probably only a few players that will suit his desires.
Big Sam and his 'shore up the defence' attitude to muster the points necessary to scramble to safety is perhaps the only guy to successfully achieve avoiding the drop in recent memory, and who wants that, even we tried him.
If successful, we will be going up with hardly any Premier level players, but as a team they could quite easily consolidate and get a footing with the right approach to bringing players in. Jesse Marsch scrambled home when we got very very lucky that season end, but i still feel that was a mistake replacing Bielsa at the helm that knew his players so well.
If we sacked Farke through some troubled times, I dread to think where any incoming manager would start modelling his style, there is such a huge gap between these two divisions of football, I hope we can all see the standard of players we currently have, we have a lot of 'unknowns' which hopefully can step up, but as McKenna and Martin have found out - It is not easy to play the football you want without the Premier class players, and those Premier class players are usually spoken for, and we like many others will be shopping around the dregs of them to try and unearth a few the manager can find to - fit in/work with/ make us stronger as an outfit.
Some will, some won't, do not be in a rush to be-head him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How bad are the current bottom three?
There has been a lot of chatter surrounding this year's Premier League bottom three and whether they are the "worst" bottom three ever.
Statistically, they aren't (yet), but they very nearly are - and they could still earn that infamous crown before the season draws to a close.
Opta are predicting the bottom three to finish with a combined points total of 68. Only once in Premier League history has that points total been lower - last season.
Last season's bottom three of Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United finished with a combined points total of 66. To put that into perspective, current leaders Liverpool have already surpassed that total by themselves with 10 games still to play.

So would you keep Farke for all of next season regardless of League position ?

On current form, both Leicester & Ipswich may only reach 24 or 25 points with Southampton on 12 points which would be one point more than Derby achieved when relegated in 2008.
To think we went down on 31 points, poor managerial appointments/squad cost us.

Re: Daniel Farke
Bielsa
I think even as someone who isn't a massive fan of Farke i can appreciate if we get promoted he's done his job and his shown more flexibility this season and used the squad better and helped players find confidence.
But Bielsa did his Job in the same time frame with players he had to coach to get to that level as they'd never shown that level before.
He also somehow got 9th in the Premier League.
Bielsa has his faults but you want a manager who has shown he can get more out of less as a newly promoted team.
Bielsa has shown he can.

Re: Daniel Farke
Bielsa was a breath of fresh air after so many years in the doldums, and deserves all the good feelings coming his way. And he did enhance ordinary players' performances. But that was at a price. He said himself, his teams last only 2 or 3 years before the fitness regime takes its toll. We had/still have players (eg Bamford) who collapsed fitness wise after a couple of years. He was the guy to get you to the Premiership, but could not be relied upon to keep you there. And that's before you consider his lack of flexibility regarding playing styles and being unperturbed by 6-0 losses. Rose coloured spectacles are two for one in Specsavers at the moment. Farke has been there and done it - promotion and relegation - twice. Let's hope that just as he appears to have learned how to achieve promotion, he has now learned from his mistakes in being relegated.

Re: Daniel Farke
IF we get promoted Farke will be taking a better overall squad into the Premiership than he did with his Norwich side. He will also get more backing than he did at Norwich and he will add better players to this current squad, i have no doubt about that. Maybe we wont go spending silly money that some fans will be wanting us to do on new players, but the recruitment so far has been good so anyone he brings in during the summer will more than likely do a good job.
All big if`s of course, but if we get there, if he keeps this squad together and adds to it, then if he has learned from his past mistakes we should have a good fighting chance of staying up.
But this is football, there are no guarantees for anything, lets wait and see

Well, we don't know if the board will back him yet do we, if so, and it's his team then yes, he more than deserves a crack with his team, it's imperative we strenghten our very weak squad, it's also imperative we get some with PL experience, but thats only my opinion.
Whoever got us promoted after 16 yrs in the wilderness would've been lauded a hero and I mean anyone, just in this case we actually produced some scintilating football not seen for years, along with an unknown maverick manager.
We have a great opportunity to stick with a manager we know will sign another contract asap and not leave the club & fans guessing, we have a manager in place with knowledge of the PL, why change managers if you won't back the previous then back a new one.
As regards of league position, if you already know where we'll finish I suggest you put a bet on now whilst doing the lottery.

If Farke is manager at the start of next season then we have to stick by him. Of course that won't happen if we're in danger of going down and we'll be gambling on a new coach working the oracle just like practically everyone else does.mentalcase wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 5:41 pm Well, we don't know if the board will back him yet do we, if so, and it's his team then yes, he more than deserves a crack with his team, it's imperative we strenghten our very weak squad, it's also imperative we get some with PL experience, but thats only my opinion.

Oh and I'm still angry at Radrazani bigging himself up at the decision to sack Bielsa when he just got lucky as proven by the subsequent relegation.

A/ Hope we go up
and
B/ Back DF , as you say, it will then all be results depending, we already know it will be difficult, but you would hope the board would back the manager asap and not wait till January 2026 to back him, not that we ever do any strengthening in January like.
Sack DF at the first set of bad results and we are back on the manager-go-round, more than likely resulting in relegation again.
It will be tough, but not impossible to stay up, but we must strengthen asap, forewarned is forearmed.

Marsche was given McKennie and Rutter in the January we went down and had those funds been invested the previous summer we might have fared better. Clearly the board thought they'd recruited enough to comfortably stay up so as usual chose to hang onto available funds instead of digging really deep before a ball was kicked.
That poor judgement has probably set us back 5 years.

Relegation was Impossible - words of Radz on TSB at the start of the season. No doubt he was echoing what Orta had told him.Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 8:14 pm Just regarding the January strengthening.

We did make a decent number of signings that summer. Probably not the best signings. And a really poor manager. There was a point when it looked like Gracia had saved us. If he'd had the full season, I think Gracia would have saved us with the same squad.

Difficult yes, impossible no.
You'll never know if transfers will work out, but if you don't take a punt in the first place..
One things for sure, we need to strengthen sooner rather than later

Imo if and it's a big if we get promoted there is no way I want Farke in charge of us because we will come straight back down,he works with too small a group of players even now we are like we were last season and he still does, nothing different. I have said from day 1 he will not get us promoted he looks nervous which then goes onto the field and he relies on the same group and that's because he hasn't used any of the others regularly like how can meslier still be in goal beggers belief he WILL cost us again b4 the end of season .
