Unfortunately, the best flair players are chaos, not control - from Raphinha to Messi to Pele.

We need a happy medium, enough originality and risk taking to stop us being predictable without throwing the baby out with the bath water.

That means more probing, risky passing from midfield.
That was the case with Rutter last season too

We got worse as soon as Farke made the changes.

Why three subs at the same time?

I do think we should have made the changes early in the second-half.

Three subs was peculiar, but probably an admission that he got the starting lineup completely wrong.

Probably the same reason we haven't seen Tanaka or Rothwell on the score sheet yet. They're both more attacking than Ampadu, Gruev or Kamara. But neither has scored a goal. I think it's by design and Farke's instructions to create high percentage chances.
Im pretty sure it is by design.

I recall him saying something along the lines of asking the players to think " what is the worst thing that can happen at this moment" This is when they are either about to recieve the ball or are likely to.

Then they have instilled in them to take the safest option. Keep the ball and recycle it.

This approach he believes will yield us around 80 goals and 2 points per game.

We have more goals from the subs bench than anyone else in the league. That sounds that overall the problem doesnt lie with the subs.

As for the wingers I sort of agree, but what about Aaronson trying to sit centrally and pull a few strings instead of buzzing about like a blue aresed fly and again not doing anything but look busy?
Gnonto spent more time in the middle.

Not one key pass from your advanced playmaker is so poor

The first three subs didn't seem too disruptive. Same set up different players. Thinking the decision was made that Gnonto wasn't going to play 90 (only explanation since he was our best attacking threat) and that Solomon would be a like switch. Piroe wasn't doing what he needed to be doing and Bamford could probably do it better. We don't have a like for like with Aaronson. But Ramazani was probably brought on as a more attacking threat at 10.

So I think the subs were all like for like and no change to the formation. But. It didn't make us any better either.

Johnthewhite wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 6:08 pm Farke wants to control games by retaining possession, I think we can all agree on that. However I can't agree that Farke has instructed our attacking players to "play safe and be less direct". If he has, it must be a new instruction for this season as Rutter & Summerville were pretty direct last season were they not.
Thinking about it, Dan James was very direct on Wednesday night too 🤔
We rarely cross the ball, we rarely play long balls, we rarely play in behind, we rarely switch the play.

All things that risk losing the ball.

I am absolutely certain it is Farke and his instructions.

He actually said on a few occasions about Ruter taking risks, saying to stop the tricks and flicks, Rutter just happened to ignore him

DDB220 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 6:11 pm Our system heavily relies on the overload on the flanks to pull the opposition defence out of position and create gaps. Bogle and Firpo were rarely in the game and when they were for the most part they did not provide much quality on the ball.
We therefore tried to play through the middle more and more but they were just very organised.
At the start of the second half DF tried BA on the left and moved Gnonto into the 10,which made very little difference

We go a goal down against this type of team, who are very well organised and we really struggle.

Similar to Millwall, we really need to convert the chances we get otherwise we inevitably rue those opportunities as players try to over play in possession and get dispossessed more often. Then the desperation and anxiety begins to appear within our play.

It is a script that hopefully is not repeated as often this season as it was last.
It's a pattern we've seen so many times before.

Last season as well.

DF needs to find a fix otherwise it will happen again and again and again.

The narrowness he likes in attack makes it very difficult to break down a low block.

It's the same problem Marsch had (as unpopular as that statement will be).

Marsch would try and force it with his pass forward philosophy and we'd lose the ball.

Farke prefers to play it safe go back and start again but the pattern repeats.

Eventually we get desperate, DF abandons shape and we then look vulnerable in defence.

1st goal feels crucial for us.

Always been talented I guess.

But he's a bit big headed and stubborn I think.

Fell out with Farke and other managers.

But was very good today.

Leeds head coach Daniel Farke speaking to BBC Radio Leeds:

“Blackburn had the better start and for that they deserved to win the game. We started too slow and gave too many unnecessary free-kicks and fouls away. The penalty was the same.

“Lazy is perhaps too harsh but we should have had a bit more aggression and been quicker in the head.

“I was not happy with our start and we have to be ready and quicker and do the yards that are really hurting and we didn’t do that.

Farke is spot on.

Sometimes I do wonder if some of our players' heads are full of fluff, particularly Jaiden Bogle who regularly commits silly fouls. This is what teams such as Blackburn play for, giving them opportunities to bomb the ball into our box & often causing mayhem.

You can't rotate minimum amount of players then complain they were lazy or tired or whatever.

We played 3 games in a week, he decided to keep basically the same players.

You always risk tiredness be it mental or physical.

Those were his choices.

He may be right in what he says but its his job to manage nnage the squad so that doesn't happen.

Which Mes has a dire record from, so might as well just give the opposition a goal instead.

I agree. His penalty percentage save is not good. Also, stats showed last season that his overall shots saved percentage wasn't good either.

I find it hard to criticize him as a whole. I do think he's a good keeper. But I do find it hard to defend his numbers.

Blackburn didn't change anything tbf, they had 37% possession vs Cardiff🤣.

They aren't a possession team.

Also if we know all these things how come it keeps working :duno:
