Re: Leeds Utd v Plymouth Argyle Match Thread
Is it worth the risks? Big game this week.
Remember Marsch bringing on Rodrigo when we were 3-0 up away to Accrington Stanley and him getting an ankle injury? Two months out.
The lads managed the game perfectly today imo, did the hard work, took little risk (Struijk apart) and won the game at a canter.
You can only win 3 points no matter how great the goal margin.
That more tired you are the greater injury risk and the recovery time is longer.
Millwall away next Wednesday.

Re: Leeds Utd v Plymouth Argyle Match Thread
That's about as comfortable a win as I've seen. You could say the Sheff U win was more impressive as they were a better side. We dominated Sheff U and they barely bothered us other than the opening 20.
We controlled this one from the 1st minute. Plymouth were never in the game. Almost every team we play against has something up front to make us work. Plymouth had nothing. And our defence made it look like men v boys. The fact we won this so easily should be commended as we've regularly underperformed against lower teams.
I thought Tanaka was exceptional, a very progressive play maker from deep. A couple of decent long shots and intelligent balls pinged into Piroe. Hard to judge him on today's performance though as Plymouth just mad it too easy for him. Would have been nice to see if Gyabi gave them some grit in midfield
Pleased to see Farke putting some trust in Chambers and Crew. Both looked the part. Both would probably be playing regularly if they were at Plymouth. Would like to see some youngsters coming through. In honesty though, we'll probably reinforce in Januray and send them out on loan.

Re: Leeds Utd v Plymouth Argyle Match Thread
Gyabi is currently ahead of Crew. That's why he's out on loan. Because he's too good for the 21's. Crew will probably be off on loan in January. Would have been interesting to see Gyabi if we'd kept him this season. He'd have been back up to Rothwell and Tanaka. And we probably wouldn't have signed Josh.
That's not a knock on Crew btw. I think he's got great potential. But he needs experience which he'll probably get by going out on loan. Gyabi has champiosnhip experience. That's why, if he was here, I think Farke would have used him more than he's used Crew.

Convincing team performance, even though Plymouth were poor.
Tanaka is as smooth as a Rolls Royce but I gave MOTM to James, the first goal is crucial against the low block.
Also pleased to see Chambers and Crew get a run out.

Agree with this as well.
Today was the right game for it.
As a fan it can be extremely dull and has backfired before but today made sense.

As an example of how refreshing it is to see us put in a proper performance against one of the bottom teams ...
We drew 3-3 at home to Portsmouth who are 3 points behind Plymouth
Even crazier .... Luton promoted 2 seasons ago, premier league last year, level on points with Plymouth

Illustration of some of our inconsistencies. Blades are 1 point behind us. We completely outplayed them. I'll give Sunderland credit at the top. We'd be top if it wasn't for that Meslier howler. But I did think Sunderland played well against us. All the time we were up 2-1, I kept thinking about how a draw would have been a fair result.whiteinfrance wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 5:55 pm Championship starting to look like a 4 horse race to me
Hopefully we build on this. The new French midfielder will add some depth as will Wober coming back. A little more consistency and we'll walk this league. I can really only see Sunderland as challengers.

I see Sunderland as least likeliest of the 4 to be title challengers. Sheff U keep grinding out results, Burnley probably a squad equal to us ability wise but Sunderland I wouldn't be surprised to see them simply fall away - a lot of luck etc going their way but then that seemed to be the case with Ipswich last season.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 7:13 pm Illustration of some of our inconsistencies. Re: Leeds Utd v Plymouth Argyle Match Thread
The stats paint a picture of complete dominance.
78.4% possession
23 shots to 0. That's zero.
Held Plymouth to only five touches in the box all game.
Nine corners to zero.
The stats do not flatter us, though. It was complete dominance.
I get it that Plymouth are not a very good Championship side, but they are a Championship side. This was the sort of performance you expect against a side two leagues lower.
Leeds United are the best team in the Championship this year and will be even better when healthy. Anything less than automatic promotion will be serious under-achieving.

Surprised to hear they had 5 touches in our box. Don't remember them ever being in the boxJohn in Louisiana wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:13 pm The stats paint a picture of complete dominance.

Only 2 nervous moments I recall were early. Byram lost it by the corner flag, but we won it right back. Then there was a period of head tennis near the box that eventually fell our way.

Plymouth are the worst side I've seen in the championship.
No shots.
No shots on target.
