YEP has said he doesn't actually meet the criteria due to management over the last 5 years.

Has to go to a panel which may take longer.

Don't understand how you enforce this without stalking him?

He could meet Michael Skubala in a car park at 3am and hand over file after file of tactical instructions.

He could drive round the players houses individually and give them his individual instruction.

Home Office- "What were you doing at Tyler Adams house Mr Gracia?

Brilliant

As I said, I don’t believe for one minute he doesn’t get involved in stuff before his work permit comes in. Absolutely ludicrous to think that he’s not giving some form of instructions as to what he wants doing.

"Orta raises serious red flags for me in his professional capacity, something I've been harking back to as far as Eddie Nketiah. Things with regards to his foresight, planning and risk management I just find absolutely shocking. The recruitment of Nketiah would have raised initial alarm bells in that he presented this massive presentation to Nketiah about how he would fit into Bielsa's team, yet Bielsa takes one look at him and sticks him in the reserves for four months even when Bamford wasn't scoring. That, from a managerial perspective, would raise questions with me as to the congruity with regards to Orta's work and the thoroughness with which he was carrying out his duties."

"I won't even go into the JKA thing. The worst signing in the history of football, and he [Orta] should have been sacked for that there and then. But one thing on JKA - he was brought in to have an immediate impact but he was fat, overweight, unfit, he was not prepared for an immediate impact and that again is a lack of preparation from Orta. Despite the fact we knew Eddie Nketiah was going in the middle of December back to Arsenal we didn't get JKA in until the 27th January. The lack of preparedness is shocking."

"A big one on the risk management, it might seem small but it shows an insight into his thought process, is the loan situation. So last season, in a threadbare squad, we had Cody Drameh and Leif Davis both out on loan ... without a recall clause. Now I know some people would have said 'look, Bielsa wouldn't have had them back anyway' and that's fine, but that's not the point. As a sports professional, your job is to mitigate the risk for Leeds United. And if you're not doing that you're not carrying out your duties correctly. The fact is Victor Orta should have had a recall clause in for both of those players, in fact for all players going out on loan, to protect Leeds United against any eventuality. If we don't need to use it, absolutely fine. But its prudent, and its best practice, to have these risk management factors installed into contracts so that Leeds United is not left exposed."

"And unfortunately we're seeing that same level of negligence in his follow-up to Jesse Marsh. Jesse Marsh has been a complete failure in my eyes, and another Orta project, but regardless of that and regardless of how much he was supporting Jesse Marsh, he had to have a plan in place for if Marsh quit, or if Marsh was sacked. Its very clear he has absolutely no plan in place. The man is not fit to hold the office, he's not qualified in any way - he's a journalist - and to be quite honest I think his decisions, now that Bielsa has gone and can't protect him, have really put us in a perilous position. What did we do to deserve Victor Orta? I do not know."

Wrong thread really but you only have to look at his job history.

As a more junior member with limited control he lasted years at Sevilla whilst being managed by the brilliant Monchi.

Left to his own devices as the boss he lasted
11 months as Zenit
18months at Elche
18 months at Boro where the promotion had 0 to do with him, were well on there way before he arrived mid season.

Following relegation he was massively criticised.

Then here where he has had 3 managers last less than a year.

The promotion was a high point and people like Raph and to a lesser degree Struijk and Meslier etc and Bielsa.

I don't think his academy work is all that, we were a lower league youth team when he arrived and we still are.

But then you have the literal tens of millions on JKA and Nketiah and Firpo and paying off Marsch and all that stuff

The embarrassing videos of him taunting fans.

The consistent willingness to leave the club short in key areas.

He is basically a frustrated coach who got into journalism got in with the right people and worked his way up.

I imagine his passion and stuff goes down well with higher ups and he is very convincing.

And I'm sure he does work hard, he is a Football geek and that is time consuming.

But can't help but feel that he is vastly under qualified for the amount of power he has here and his ego and desperation to be seen as a unique thinker and revolutionary even at the expense of the club will cost any club that employs him.

But also his behaviour.

The idea the Chelsea owners would put up with his behaviour is laughable.

And I'm sure it plays a part in why he doesn't last long most of the time.

Kinnear is to weak to do anything and plays it off as a joke.

But proper serious people with very deep pockets who care about PR would sack him for that alone.
Signed

Yeah. I head similar on the Inside Elland Road podacst today

Gracia doesn't qualify automatically as he doesn't have enough time served in top positions over the past 5 years. It has to go to a special appeal - basicaly a panel has to see he has the required experience and quality. That should be a formality given managers who have received the same over the past year.

But .... it might take a week. Meaning he might not be in the dug out on Saturday. He can be around the training ground and advise as a "guest"

faaip wrote: Tue Feb 21, 2023 8:24 pm Of course hitting on Bielsa is immense, most wouldn't have. We'd still be a division lower and almost 20 years of lower league hell.. Most clubs never hit on a Bielsa, most, probably nigh on all miss, on the replacement...

Player wise he's done fairly well, more hits than misses and mosyt of those misses occured when we went into the 17/18 season with f**k alll on the playing staff and no youth team. We had to add a lot of players in a very short time. Bet if I make you do your job in 1/10th of the time you screw up. I know I would... even putting somes emblance of a team out, (a team that actually started brightly under TC before TC's reluctance for training had the obvious results) was a small triumph...

Speaking of TC, that was an error but Rads was a rookie owner, and I'm not sure how much experience Orta had appointing managers pre Leeds.. The big, probably inexcusable error, was the firing of Marcelo... It will remain the only thing so far for which I hold the board accountable... and I think it was fan driven, we've seen they can be affected by fan opinion quite badly
I'd tend to agree on some points , Bielsa's reluctance to change his style against the more accomplished sides did for him . A weak board if fan driven as you say.IMHO.

Orta has shown on many occasions his arrogance, a few clips where he does considering himself the second coming of christ. Signings will always be open to opinion, you'd have to put a poll up to get a general consensus, under whelming.

T.C started in pretty good fashion if memory serves correctly before it went tits up, the reasons I can't remember.

I can assure you in my job even under pressure I wouldn't behave in the manner Orta has or make as many mistakes, you'd see them, I'd be doing the work again. Orta by his behaviour may be seen as passionate, I see an idiot with a spread sheet , xbox game pass and football manager.

Interesting how many people say stuf like that and how many people beleive it to be true.

Season 20-21

When we played them first time around:
Lost to Liverpool 4-3, Chelsea 3-1, Man U 6-2 and Spurs 3-0 (GF 6 Against 16)

When we played them later on in the season:
Drew with Liverpool 1-1, Chelsea 0-0, Man U 0-0 and beat Spurs 3-1 (GF 4 GA 2)

So are you suggesting that there was no change of tactics, by Bielsa, to go from 4 defeats and 16 goals conceded to 0 defeats and 2 goals conceded in the 4 matches against the same opposition?

Sadly it is the usual rhetoric used to belittle Bielsa. Facts are ignored and instead all arguments are based on some pretty poor results when some of the only players Bielsa had available would probably have struggled, as a team, to get above mid table in the championship. Yet tactics of course was the deciding factor which is why we regularly see poor teams beating all the top teams, nothing to do with inferior players.

Agreed. I’m keen to learn more about how well he’s being received among the players, existing staff, etc. Has anyone had a sighting of him about town?

I kind of like that he’s retained the existing coaching staff…placing them into logical roles while adding his own coaches. I think this demonstrates an appreciation for the work they’ve put in/what they’ve been through, while adding a sense of continuity. Presumably the existing coaches are appreciative of this…

I like the suggestion that he is tactically flexible, and adapts to strengthen attack or defence as needed. Also his no nonsense approach to discipline. Never considered him before, but he might be just what we need right now.
Same here, I know nowt about him apart from reading since he was employed by Leeds.

Tactically flexible - Should help coz they're all discombobulated atm.

No nonsense - Also appeals to me, shades of Bert, although whingers like Rodrigo will obviously sulk.

Might be just what we need - Not the first choice, but could be a blessing in disguise after what i've read and might just surprise us.

Adapts to strengthen - Yes, i've read the same, he doesn't hesitate to switch formation depending on opponent, 3-4-3, 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1, this is all good going forward but time is again of the essence because of the crazy mishandlings and diabolical decision/s of our resident clown, where we find ourselves once again in the lap of the Gods/lady luck/rabbits feet/prayers/Blarney stones and throwing salt or something over your left shoulder - and obviously it goes without saying keeping our fingers crossed that someone like Burnley don't win their last game v Newcastle.

We'll find out on Saturday, but he does seem to have had a 'new manager bounce' when he's been the incoming elsewhere.

But this is Leeds.

If he does get that 'bounce' expect the said clown to be wanking him off in front of the South stand fans, and claiming him as his own miracle of wonder.

But i suppose one never knows - he might get lucky again and be banging his drum from the rooftops

5pm Saturday - Don't miss it.

Using the iconic Red Adair (the famous American oil well firefighter) as a reference point to describe the job facing Javi Gracia at Leeds United will pre-date the younger supporter. It may even, with a full 15 matches and 45 points remaining, exaggerate the scale of the challenge for the former Watford head coach.

But a rescue mission is what it is, and if another five or six wins are required to stay up, the first must surely come this weekend at home to bottom club Southampton.

Gracia, appointed on a flexible contract, is waiting on a work permit before being able to flex his managerial muscle which, according to those who were at Vicarage Road with him, is considerable.

Former Hornets goalkeeper Ben Foster appeared on social media wearing United’s home kit to extol Gracia’s virtues, saying: "Everybody really respected him because you could see he was a very, very good coach.

"On the training pitch, he knew exactly what he was doing. He took every single session. He was always in control of it. Everything was thought out by him."

Gracia picks up the Whites inside the bottom three and in a more precarious position than when he took charge of Watford in January 2018, when they were 10th in the Premier League and five points above the relegation zone.

Whether Red Adair or Fireman Sam, Javi needs to smother the growing flames and ignite the team.

Leeds United's poor performance at relegation rivals Everton meant they were forced into a rapid managerial appointment, says former England captain Alan Shearer.

The Whites had failed to decide on a successor to Jesse Marsch since sacking him a fortnight ago, but eventually plumped for former Watford manager Javi Gracia, announcing his appointment on a "flexible contract" on Tuesday.

Shearer believes the manner of the 1-0 loss at Everton forced the club's hand after they missed out on a number of previous dugout targets.

"They had to do something and they had to do it quickly, because they were hopeless at the weekend," Shearer said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"They were devoid of ideas, [and had] no goal threat, so they had to appoint someone.

"He has Premier League experience and he is available. He doesn't demand a long contract. He has one job and that is to keep them up - it is going to be very, very difficult."

BBC Radio Leeds' Adam Pope agreed that Gracia's most important objective is keeping Leeds in the top flight.

"First, staying in the division has to be it [the priority]," said Pope. "Let's forget any long-termism, hence the flexible nature. We can see his mission is to keep them in the division."

Jesse Marsch is a nice guy. Everyone has said so. But are nice guys successful?

Leeds United's most recent successful manager - Marcelo Bielsa, a walking storm of expletives, complaining about the placement of power sockets - could never be described as a nice guy.

Inspirational, obsessive, demanding - but never simply nice.

It has gone badly wrong at Leeds. From the high water mark of finishing ninth, the mistakes made since - particularly at board level - have steered the club into a steep descent.

Michael Skubala is a nice guy. Everyone says so. And the performance at Everton on Saturday was the pallid display of a team on a meek trudge to the Championship.

This club is in chaos. What leadership there is left seems more concerned with tweets and proving people wrong than making the right choices.

Javi Gracia is a football obsessive known for 12-hour shifts at the training ground. He can be many things - but he can't be just a nice guy.

It's time for ruthless decisions made by sober characters. The club needs strong leadership because, as the phrase goes: nice guys finish last.

But you see it is a belittling when you say someone is incapable of doing something (in this case changing tactics) when clearly they are capable and have shown it - and I have demonstrated to you (in my previous post).

People see Bielsa as sticking to a system rigidly but it simply isn't the case - from day 1 our tactics were either 4 at the back or 5 at the back (KP dropping into defence) if the opposition played 2 strikers - however because it involved the same 11 players some fans don't see it as a change in the system and Bielsa creating a team that had players that were clever enough to adapt o the situation without having to make changes to the starting line-up or a load of subsitutions.

People se Bielsa sticking to his system when we were getting whupped but the options were a) Change the system to suit players that aren't good enough to be first team starters and likely aren't part of his longer term plans or b) Keep the system, that has worked for 3 seasons, in place and trsut that when better players return the well oiled machine will work properly again. For me you don't change your system to try to suit the weaker players in your squad as there is a reason why they aren't usual starters and there is certainly no guarantee that getting the weaker players to change the way they have been taught for 3+ years is going tomake them better.

4 or 5 at the back dependant on 1 or 2 strikers spot on. As I said pragmatism sometimes over ideology . Look we can back and forth until the cows come home it makes no difference. Great to watch not always with the right result
