Re: Next Manager
Realise we have sadly moved past this hope of immediate reprieve from Marsch.
But think I've found the mid season appointment Orta would go for.
1) Spanish
2) Teams run a lot
3) Used to working within a relatively small budget.
4) System over individual.
5) Similar system to Marsch (yeah I know)
6) Unemployed so cheap
He is actually successful though, won La Liga best coach award and Miguel Munoz best coach award 3 times.
And crucially Orta knows him, he was Sevilla manager when Orta was there getting Monchi his tea.
And for a final encore, Orta compared him to Bielsa 10 years ago in an interview
I give you former Athletico Bilbao, Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal manager Marcelino García Toral
Style may not be to everyone's cup of tea but he is certainly unique.

Re: Next Manager
I think he was in charge when I went to watch Valencia play when I lived over there. The game was very dull, though part of that may have been because I didn't really have any emotional investment in the game. I think it would have been early in his time there.
Interesting how he plays the vertical game but has built it on a solid defence.

May have been, the owner is loopy (sacked him for winning a trophy).weasel wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:17 pm I think he was in charge when I went to watch Valencia play when I lived over there. But he took Valencia to 12th season before he arrived to back to back 4th placed finishes.
Marsch gets all this credit for finding a system that suits Rodrigo, but actually its Marcelino who got Rodrigo firing first of all at Valencia. Rodrigo was at Valencia for 6 seasons, only hit double figures in 2, both under Marcelino.
People think Jesse has done this wonderful job with Rodrigo but imo actually it's just that the system is very close to the one Marcelino used.
But as you he managed to make them very good defensively.
If your looking for mid season appointments he is the most sensible I can find.
The style is similar to Marsch but better drilled, it's similar to Bielsa in terms of fitness and repetition.11
He's a disciplinarian not all pally pally like Marsch (which I think you need in a relegation battle) and he is very very respected.
Turned down AC Milan, was linked to Arsenal and Spurs in the past and was the favourite to replace Enrique at Spain to the point even Spanish media were shocked he didnt get it.
Of all the choices imo he makes the most sense and would still be be coup for us.

Well we are a point worse off after 19 matches than we were last year when we were the worst team in the world etc.
Last year's injury riddled team: Pl 19 Pts 19
This year's embarrasment of attacking riches, 2 fully fit central midfielders and options in defence: Pl 19 Pts 18

Re: Next Manager
The team that beat Burnley 3-1 to take us to 19 points from 19 matches - No KP, no Bamford, no Rodrigo, No Cooper
Meslier, Ayling, Koch, Llorente, Firpo, Dallas, Klich, Forshaw, Raphinha, Roberts, Harrison
Leeds banch that day was Dan James and a load of youngsters - don't think any were even in their 20s.

GD is grand though.
Embarrassing how terrible a season EFC Soton etc are having yet we're a point off the drop ourselves.
I'm never keen on changing a manager at this point, but you've convinced me we have enough attacking for a better mnager to get going ok

Julian Nagelsmann isn't exactly the most popular man in Munich these days. If he were to become available we could do much worse. And I think he would work wonders with our young squad.

Re: Next Manager
Interestingly given all the diatribe against Bielsa, over the defensive record last season, at this point of the season the current Leeds side has only conceded 4 less than Bielsa's side did over the opening 19 matches. So basically the only difference was that we conceded 7 to City last year and only 3 this year. So despite having more defenders to pick from, including the £10m+ plus 2nd choice rightback and a near ever present midfield pairing to pick from we're not really any better defensively.

Re: Next Manager
Orta will ve furiously pointing to his spreadsheet and analysis tools.
But even those are absolutely borderline now based on Radz 14-10th pre season expectation statement.
Everything points to Marsch being right on a knife edge on every metric.
That being said I don't think the ownership uncertainty can be ignored.
The simple question of who pays him off

After 19 games 2 years ago we were a point behind Arsenal. We're now 32 points off them.

I think if they are prepared to splash the money we have on players in the hope of keeping us up then the contract for JM is chicken sh*t in comparison.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 6:30 pm Orta will ve furiously pointing to his spreadsheet and analysis tools.

Does he have any other attacking plays that you know of and have you any confidence in him deploying such ?
This down the middle is congested shite, has he ever used girth?

But he would have a ton of better options.
Besides he is apparently one of the best paid coaches in football history according to German media.
He's probably on £15-20mil a year

Re: Next Manager
Nagelsmann changed the way RB Leipzig played after succeeding Rangnick. He departed from the Red Bull way. The team became much more possession based. It's one of the main criticism's of Marsch when he replaced Nagelsmann. He tried to reinstitute some version of Rangnick's tactics.
Having said that there is much speculation that the Senior players at Bayern are not happy with his tactics. I've not watched much of Bayern this year. Not sure if it's valid. Bayern seems to be in some transition after losing Lewandowski. It's easy for any Manager to look like a genius when you have a guy like that scoring goals...
